premania Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I remember we were less excited when we got Torres, instead our preference were more on Tevez. I've made up my mind. Rafa, you were damn right. Torres is the man. Thank you Rafa. Now bring the holy grail.
Rimbeux Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Going on the basis that a good biggun beats a good littlun, I think it's a no brainer, I also think that given the choice Ferguson would have Torres over the mini Ronney he has in Tevez, whom he bought because he's a tasty player he'd rather not go elsewhere, even if not an ideal fit for his team. Anyway, Torres is quicker, bigger, more powerful and is at least as skillful and the little one
RedNik Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I don't know who exactly wanted Tevez more over Torres - my guess it was because people had seen more of him (being in the premiership), and he was flavour of the month due to the end of season heroics.
Barnesy_10 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I was gutted to see Tevez go to the Mancs.. but watching him yesterday he looked pretty lethargic, apart from when he was on the ball, as soon as he lost possession he looked fed up and uninterested.. not sure if he is unfit? I think the Mancs need a Torres more than a Tevez, maybe not at the moment as Rooney is injured, but long term they need a number 9, and I think we have one of the best in the business, and that must piss Fergie off something rotten.
kacangpool Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 the mancs were dominating the game, and were pounding mancity's goal. it'd take sometime for tevez to get his sharpness again like he was at west ham imo. lethargic maybe right, after all it wasn't long ago he was involved in the copa america. that said, i think the mancs and chelsea are going more for the cl this season.
Coyler Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Mockerrific thread, well done. What could be said is that in our case you can see already exactly why Torres was added to the squad -- and it wasn't Rafa's eyes being bigger than his belly.
Guest Disintegration Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 (edited) Well, they're very different players. Torres clearly has more skill and is the better footballer, whereas Tevez looks like he'll run more - a deluxe Kuyt in style but with less physical presence, in a way. I can't pretend to be an expect on either because I haven't seen them all that much, but that's the impression I get. Going on stats, Torres is more proven at a higher level - a reasonable goal return in Spain while playing in a mediocre team, and a much better record at international level. Tevez hit a purple patch at the back end of last season, but that doesn't prove anything yet (much like Torres' goal doesn't prove he'll do that regularly for us). Anyone can have a good run of form. Antoine Sibierski will be close to equaling Tevez's exploits if he scores two or three more goals in his next few games. Edited August 20, 2007 by Disintegration
Hassony Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Torres is better looking than Tevez (understatment of the year)
ManxRed Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Torres is better looking than Tevez (understatment of the year) John Merrick was better looking than Tevez!
Rimbeux Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 yeah, I'd still have liked both. Us getting Torres, Tevez and Heinze in? No way would Ferguson let that happen...

Torres is the man. Thank you Rafa. Now bring the holy grail. Some of us wanted Torres all along and thought Tevez was overhyped because of his last 10 games for the Hammers. I'm F****** delighted we got Torres who was the best striker in the world who was available.
lawrie Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Much too early to tell as Tevez clearly isn't fit yet, although I wasn't too disappointed when we didn't go in for him

I'm F****** delighted we got Torres who was the best striker in the world who was available.he wasn't even available, we got him because he wanted to come to liverpool, otherwise he would have stayed at atletico, which makes it so much sweeter Tevez is a good player, but he isn't anywhere near the level that some were putting him on in the summer,
Sion Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Torres is like a stronger, quicker, less knobish version of Owen. I never understood the whole Tevez hyping up, don't know where it came from, he's nothing special at all. Must have missed about 5 sitters in his first two games so far.

Granted he's not fit and playing out of position.
stressederic Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I've wanted Torres for years and was made up when we got him. I still am. Not sure you can really compare him to Tevez though. Torres is a Striker, whilst Tevez is more like Rooney, and likes to play ing the supporting role. he'll get his fair share of goals mind you.
Stevie H Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I've wanted Torres for yearsit's just one big campfest today isn't it?
