I remember thinking he'd be a good backup player for 1-2 mio he was touted for.

Still think he would have been. But backup players come and go.

Remember how we wanted him so badly biggrin.gif

well as I recall it was Routledge or Lennon, once again the forum got it WRONG !!!

I think Pennant is every bit as good as the other overhyped English wingers like

SWP

Routledge

Downing

Lennon

Of that list only Lennon is better (beats his man more , but offers fewer crossess, but more goals )

Pennant's biggest weakness so far is lack of pace, if he had a tiny bit more pace he'd be absolutely the best winger in the country

he has the skill to beat his man but not the pace to get that yard required for a cross.

Still having said that his confidence is growing and as I recal Beckham didn't need lots of space for a cross, so maybe Pennant will improve beyond measure

Still wish he would be his man on the outside (from time to time) and cross ( accurately) from the bye line

Story of English wingers in recent years, they either have loades of pace and a crap cross, or, no pace and an excellent at crossing. That's probably why Gerrard gets used out there for England, though he doesn't appear to have true wingers pace, he can suddenly burst past somebody and still be trusted to put a decent ball in.

Pennant's biggest weakness in my unhumble meaning (there, a new word?) is that he is too weak and is too easily outmuscled. And a little, tiny bit more pace.

Yeah, I always thought he was a bit fiesty when he has played for his other teams, but he doesn't seem to have any of that here.

I think he does but doesn't use it like a winger
