Guest prophet Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Rafa Benitez has been promised a £40million summer transfer fund following his meeting with Liverpool's new owners, George Gillett and Tom Hicks. The American tycoons want to see the Reds challenge Manchester United and Chelsea at the top of the Premiership and have pledged the funds to allow manager Benitez to do so. Following a weekend strategy meeting Benitez said: 'We talked about ideas for the future and it was good. For me, the future of the club is brilliant.' 'They (Gillett and Hicks) said that we will go in the right direction.' Benitez has spent an average of £25million in each of the last three off-seasons but has generally used the cash to boost the squad's numbers rather than sign marquee players. Football's top stars are now realistic targets and newspaper reports have already linked the Spaniard with moves for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o and Valencia's David Villa. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...452&cc=4716 20mil for Eto o , 13 mil for Alves and ?????
