Stadium starts in June

Saturday's edition doesn't get online, but on the front of it today is:

NEW ANFIELD EXCLUSIVE

HICKS: We'll start stadium in June.

Can't type it all in as I'm off to the match now, but I'm hoping another local whose got the Echo will vouch for this and type in a bit more.

I presume no details about the capacity and redesign or you would have put them in.

Says all details are being kept confidential for now - hoping to get approval for an expandable, improved version of the current plans without the need for more planning permission. The Kop will be much larger than in the original plans after they were impressed at the Barca game

That seems to be becoming a bit of a consistent message now. Be nice if there was scope for further development later on.

Just read it myself and apparently the current plans have been shelved and over the weekend the new plans will be discussed, but the Kop will indeed by the show piece...

The Kop should always have been the showpiece though, never really understood why it wasn't anything special in the original plans, and I'm very happy the new owners have sorted this out.

I don't understand how:

'We'll start it in June'

is consistent with:

'The current plans have been shelved'

Surely if there are substantive changes to the plans then planning permission must be resought?

?We?re meeting after today?s game with planners. We hope we can reach agreement so that we can start work in the park by June,? explained Hicks.

?We are working very hard with a great team of architects to come up with a new design which is consistent with the approved plan. We hope there won?t be a significant delay.

?We recognise the Kop is the heart of the stadium, and the new design will reflect this.

?The Kop will be larger than it would have been in the old plans. We hope to build the stadium in such a way that it will be possible to expand at a later time, so far as the plans will allow. It?s going to be more expensive than the previous design, but our priority is to make this stadium the best in the world.

?We?ve one opportunity to ensure Liverpool continues it?s tradition for being the best football club in the world, not just for now, but for the next 50 years.?

Thats everything I wanted to hear.

Jeez, that is an exciting article. :D

I can almost see Anny Road in those cowboy boots, with a big cigar and dollar bills overflowing out of his jeans pockets. Drawling in the Oakie "Ok boys, who's for a game of craps"

Hicks? sons, Tommy and Alex, armed with their impressive new cowboy boots with the club badge stitched on, took in the sights and sounds of Mathew Street?s pubs on a mission to hear what supporters really felt about their family's involvement.

Am I the only one who wants a pair of them boots :D

New Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has maintained that there are no plans to stadium share with Merseyside rivals Everton.

Gillett and Tom Hicks completed their takeover of The Reds earlier this week, and the building of the club's new Stanley Park stadium is a priority for the Americans.

Much talk has surrounded the possibility of sharing the new stadium with Everton, but Gillett says talks have never taken place between the two clubs.

And the Montreal Canadiens owner has once again assured Liverpool fans that a stadium share is not on their agenda.

"We've been asked that a lot, in fact when I went through customs they weren't going to clear my passport unless I swore I wasn't going to do stadium sharing!" Gillett told Sky Sports 1.

"So I'm here and I did reaffirm our commitment to building our own stadium.

"We have never talked about it with Everton or anyone on their behalf and I think it's highly unlikely we ever would.

"It's not a subject that's even on the agenda."

Gillett hopes building on the new stadium will begin in May or June after the new owners ordered a review of plans as they consider increasing the 60,000 capacity.

"We would hope as soon as possible, May or June perhaps," he added. "But there are a lot of planning considerations.

"What we want to do is give the Liverpool supporters a stadium that's competitive with the other leading clubs in the Premiership.

"That required some slight changes in the plans, we're trying to do it within the existing planning guidelines. We may need some modifications of that, that may take a little time.

"It's hard for me to predict from the outside the length of time, but hopefully soon."

Got to love the bit where he says he wasn't going to be let through passport control unless he promised not to groundshare

Tom Hicks was interviewed by ESPN last night. He was very impressive, in particular his attitiude was l exactly what i would expect from an owner.

Cant wait to see the new stadium, they arent mucking about.

SSN breaking news says we have ruled out the possibility of ground sharing - phew!
