Penalties

Fowler is the best equipped to take our penalties but he doesn't play very often.

I don't trust Gerrard or Bellamy with them either.

Kuyt may be a shout but as never seeing him take one he probably isn't great.

I think Gonzalez would be a very good penalty taker but he's in the same situation as Fowler.

Along the same topic.

I would like to mocker us.

When was the last time we conceeded a pen?

I can't remember one for ages. Only one I can recall recently is Lampard at Anfield in their 4-1 win.

Charlton away last season.

I remember Rafa saying that he picks a different penalty taker for each game, then if the player misses it it is Rafas fault for picking him, good management.

I think it was Gerrard who mentioned that in his book. Twas when he was talking bout Alonso taking the peno in the final, and he was trying to remember who Rafa had said was taking the penos that day!

It would be if we actually scored more than we miss :P

generally from what I can remeber Bellamy is quite good at them.,....i know he f***ed up the pone at brum but i thought that was because he was desperate to get the monkey off his back

Reina anyone ?

He always plays the league & big cup games. He's excellent at psyching penalty takers out, so maybe he'd be the same with opposing keepers.

Just a thought.

letting a 'keeper take a penalty (other than in a shoot-out) is potential suicide. if he hits the woodwork and the opposition counter-attack they're a shoo-in to score.

Yeah, i know, as the Friedel going up for a corner incident proved at the wkend.........just trying to generate a bit of debate tbh. Didn't the Paraguay keeper (who we were once linked with) take them regularly ?

chilavert. he did, freekicks too. showboat football. don't know what his record for goals conceded from his advanced position is mind.

Hans-Jörg Butt is, or at least was, Leverkusen's pen taker for a couple of years and HSV's shooter before joining Leverkusen, finished his last season before leaving HSV with 9 goals

The way around that is to change goalkeepers. Put Carra in goal and let Reina take the pen, and then they change back at the next opportunity.

or just let Carra take the penalty, if we're going to have a regular taker.

i like Rafa's method though.

It was weird that Gerrard missed again, and a weak one that was. His penno in the FA Cup was excellent and he has gone on record saying that he has found that spot which keeper couldn't reach....

Kuyt and Speedy could be good choices or another try with Alonso.

Off the same monkey theory I wouldn't be surprised to see Carra on the next one. Bellamy isn't that bad a shout though and I'm surprised no one is mentioning Garcia. Never thought Gerrard was going to score but he kept his head nicely on the rebound.

I think Rafa is still taking the piss out of him for Istanbul, the sight of a liverpool player pleading with the boss to take a penalty in the CL final and Rafa just saying 'no' and walking away still makes me laugh.
