Bolton Match Programme

[eljay]

Was at the match yesterday and still very pissed off (which probably contributes to why I can't sleep at the moment and am typing this at this ungodly hour on a Sunday morning!).

Anyway, does anyone remember during Rafa's first season when Phil Thompson, whilst on Sky, queried the selection of Mark Halsey as referee for our home match v Bolton, because Mark actually uses Bolton's training facilities during the week?

I must admit I thought Thommo was a bit OTT, and I'm not suggesting anything untoward even now. BUT, flicking through yesterday's match programme I was a bit surprised to see Mark appears to have a column in it (I'm assuming it's a a regular column), and was even more surprised - and perhaps even a little disconcerted - to read the following:

"...Let's hope that the boys can put on a performance and win for Big Sam and Little Sam".

I'm not suggesting there's anything sinister in that comment but surely it must suggest that Mark Halsey is not allowed to referee any Bolton matches these days? Otherwise it would indicate a serious conflict of interest and raise questions about his impartiality during their games.

(Come to think of it, given the ensuing performance of Phil Dowd and his assistants, maybe Mark had a word with them before the game! )
