Milan ponder Gerrard bid

Tuesday 30 May, 2006

Milan are ready to make Liverpool a mega offer for captain Steven Gerrard, reports in Italy insist on Tuesday.

With the Rossoneri set to net around £35m for Andriy Shevchenko from Chelsea, the Italians are ready to use part of those funds to finance a Gerrard bid.

The England ace is highly rated in Italy and after initial links with Juventus earlier this year, Milan are now being paired with the star.

Milan know all about Gerrard?s quality after he inspired Liverpool?s quite remarkable Champions League Final comeback against the Rossoneri just over a year ago.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he is looking to freshen things up in midfield and had already indicated that Juventus? Emerson was wanted.

But Gerrard is believed to be his primary objective even if the Anfield outfit have always insisted that he is not for sale.

It remains to be seen whether there is any scope for negotiating, which will now probably only take place after the World Cup Finals.

Gerrard will love playing in Seria B

the missus has probably been on the phone to Berlusconi begging them to sign him

Milan?

they're implicated as well - if Juve go down many can't see how Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina can avoid the same fate.

italy captain fabio cannavarro even said at a press conference 'if moggi is involved how can galliani not be?'. milan seem to have a very real chance of being in deep s*** now that they no longer have the protection of berlusconi at the top of the shop.

OK, that'll get you an arm......

I have this horrible feeling that he'll have a brilliant world cup and we'll end up on the end of a record breaking bid.

I would LOVE for us to get a £60M+ bid - and throw it back in their face. He's not for sale, it's unconditional...

If that happened I reckon we'd accept

For 60 million?

Are you sure?

I think you're right

Whilst you can never rule it out, there aren't many clubs capable of a bid of that size at the moment. Especially if the big boys in Italy are looking at being relegated.

Yep, it doesn't work like that.

If someone bid £60m, we accept, Stevie get's p*ssed off that we contemplate selling him and he goes to where ever it is he wants, and not the highest bidder.

We end up getting £40m - which is what we would have got of the chavs last summer.

I think Rafa would accept forty million too. That's a huge amount of money to turn down, for any club.

aren't there only about two teams capable of bidding that sort of money nowadays though? chelsea and what, madrid? can't see any of the italians being able to splash like that.

Wasn't it 32 million that Chelsea offered.

Exactly. I don't see Chelsea coming back a third time after two very public rejections either. Especially now they've gone for Ballack instead. There will be plenty of clubs out there who'd love to make such a bid, but very few (if any) that both can and will.
