Uk economy and workers rights

Was thinking about this after the announcement to cut 1000 jobs by vuaxhall in elsemere port

We are always told that we had to sacrifice workers rights to keep britian flexible and prevent us from becoming socialist beds of doom like our European neigbhours, if we demanded the same rights as the people in france and germany then our companies would become uncompetitive and fold

How come france have now created an aeroplane company that has knocked boeing off top spot, how come pegeuot now own nissan and are thriving while british leyland has gone, how elf are one of the biggest oil companies, how come thales are building the new british aircraft carriers.

And then there is germany, how come BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Mercedes are all thriving, Siemens was left cherry picking the best bits of marconi/gec

How come all these french and german companies are global giants with a workforce that have workers rights ? I thought that was not meant to happen.

For years we have looked at America for inspirtaion where you have no rights, hardly any holidays and are worked a huge amount of hours whilst in Europe, companies, some nationalised ones have become global monsters whilst having lots of rights, lots of holidays and very few working hours

Have we been conned here..... For Boeing, see Airbus. For Ford, see Volkswagen.

John L - I am coming over to your side mate and I renounce Margaret thatcher and america and embrace the french and the germans.
