Happy birthday Spud 1977 - Danny Murphy was born in Chester. He arrived from Crewe Alexandra for an overall £3m fee in July 1997. Spud was nearly on his way out early into his Anfield career, but later established himself as a vital squad member. He made a total of 249 first-team appearances, notching 44 times, helping us to claim the UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FA Charity Shield before moving to Charlton Athletic for £2.5m in August 2004.
