Two cups on the same day 1982 - We claimed two trophies - the old Football League Cup and the new Milk Cup trophy. Tottenham Hotspur went ahead at Wembley early on through Steve Archibald, one of his six goals past us, but Ronnie Whelan grabbed a late equaliser past ex-red Ray Clemence, before netting a second in extra time. Ian Rush added a third, as Spurs suffered their first defeat at Wembley, and their first loss in nine domestic cup finals. Skipper Graeme Souness lifted the old three-handled trophy, while former captain Phil Thompson held the new Milk Cup aloft. Stevie’s derby treb

4-3 for the first time 1996 - We played out a real humdinger with Newcastle United at Anfield. Robbie Fowler put us ahead after two minutes, but we went in 2-1 down at half-time after one of Les Ferdinand’s six strikes past us and a David Ginola goal. Robbie Fowler levelled the scores with his 22nd strike in his last 21 outings, but Faustino Asprilla put the visitors ahead again two minutes later. Stan Collymore tied the match once more, and then grabbed a dramatic last-gasp winner right at the death, in a match later voted the best in the Premiership’s first decade. A new record captur

Seventh heaven 2006 - We thumped Birmingham City 7-0 at St. Andrews in the Sixth Round of the FA Cup, our record away victory in the competition, and our biggest win to that date under Rafael Benítez. Sami Hyypiä put us in front in the first minute, with Peter Crouch soon also scoring with his head, to get on target in his third consecutive game. Crouch added a third just before the break, with substitute Fernando Morientes scoring on the hour. John Arne Riise belted in our fifth, with Olivier Tebily’s own goal and a shot from another sub, Djibril Cissé, completing the rout. Momo Sissoko mad

Happy birthdays 1951 – Forward David Johnson was born in Liverpool. The ex-Blue arrived from Ipswich Town in August 1976 for a club record £200,000 fee, and went on to win three League titles, European Cup, UEFA Super Cup and two FA Charity Shields, scoring 78 times in 213 reds games. He was the first player to score for both sides in Merseyside derbies, and returned to Goodison in August 1982 for £100,000. 1993 – Brazilian midfielder Fabinho was born in Campinas. African magic 2000 - A truly momentous day for Rigobert Song, who captained Cameroon to the African Cup of Nations, scoring the decisive penalty in the shoot-out in the Final against host nation Nigeria in Lagos after the game had ended 2-2 after extra-time. This was happening at the same time as we won at Highbury in the League for the final time, hanging on after Titi Camara’s strike to beat Arsenal 1-0. 2004 - Future red Momo Sissoko played for Mali as they lost their Third-place Play-off 2-1 to Nigeria in the same competition in Tunisia. Happy birthday Mamadou 1990 – Centre-half
