    Happy birthday Mr. Kennedy 1954 - Alan Kennedy was born in Sunderland. He is best remembered for his winning strikes in two European Cup Finals, but also won five League titles, four League Cups and three FA Charity Shields after moving from Newcastle United for £330,000 in August 1978, making 359 appearances and notching twenty times before joining his hometown club for £100,000 in September 1985. 1911 - Frank O’Donnell was born in Buckhaven, Fife. He struck once in two Wartime appearances for the reds. He gained six Scotland caps as well as scoring for Preston North End in every round

    Transfer deadline day drama 2011 – We broke our record transfer twice in the same day, first when Luis Suárez arrived from Ajax for a fee of £22.8m. We then signed Andy Carroll for a British record £35m, with Fernando Torres then joining Chelsea for £50m, another British record. On the same day, left-back Paul Konchesky joined Nottingham Forest on loan while young midfielder Conor Thomas arrived from Coventry City on a temporary basis, although the move was not made permanent.     Clinching the title 1982 - We claimed our thirteenth League title with a game remaining by beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield, having been mid-table at Christmas. Ex-red Ray Clemence was in the Spurs goal, with Mark Lawrenson, Kenny Dalglish and Ronnie Whelan scoring past him after Glenn Hoddle had handed the visitors the lead with a glorious strike, one of his four against us. 1984 - Ian Rush was on target as we drew 1-1 with Norwich City, having won the League three days before at Notts County.     Luis off the mark 2011 - Luis Suárez netted on his reds debut as a substitute to round off a 2-0 victory over Stoke City at Anfield. Raul Meireles had opened the scoring immediately after the break. Hodgson’s seventeenth 1935 - Gordon Hodgson scored his seventeenth and final reds hat-trick in a 4-2 League win at Leeds United, with Alf Hanson also netting. This remains a club record.     A-L-B-E-R-T, Albert Stubbins is the man for me 1919 - Legendary reds centre-forward Albert Stubbins was born in Wallsend. He signed from Newcasle United for a British record £12,500 fee in September 1946 and struck 83 times in 178 reds matches, helping to power us to the first League championship played after the Second World War. He became a scout for the club in 1954, a post he held for the rest of the decade, He was also the only footballer to appear on the cover of The Beatles’ “Sgt.
