In comes Martin 2008 - Centre-back Martin Škrtel signed from Zenit St. Petersburg for £6.5m to become our most expensive defender to date. The tough Slovakian notched eighteen goals in 320 games in total, including one in our Carling Cup win at Wembley in February 2012, moving on to Fenerbahçe SK for £5.5m in July 2016. Unfortunately, he also put through his own net a joint club record eight times. On the same day, ex-red Nicolas Anelka joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers for £15m, netting 59 times in 185 appearances before signing for Shanghai Shenhua in December 2001. Happy birthday

Happy birthdays 1938 - Legendary centre-forward ‘Sir’ Roger Hunt was born in Golborne, Lancashire. He netted 285 times in 492 reds games. His 245 League goals remain a club record, and he has the distinction of being the first red to win the World Cup while at Anfield. His club medal haul includes two League championships, FA Cup, Second Division title and FA Charity Shield. 1966 - Hunt bagged both goals as England beat France 2-0 in a World Cup Finals group game at Wembley, on his 28th birthday. Clubmate Ian Callaghan also played, winning only his second cap. 1948 - Reserves keeper F

Adam heads north 2014 - Adam Lallana signed from Southampton for £23m, becoming our second most expensive signing to date. He has so far struck 22 times in 178 reds games, coming off the bench as we claimed the FIFA Club World Cup, while also being in the matchday squads as we claimed the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup last year, and playing an important role as we claimed our nineteenth League title last month. New bosses 1983 - Joe Fagan officially took over as Manager, the only Scouser to hold this position on a permanent basis to date. In his first season as boss, he led

Stevie off but derby joy 2006 - Steven Gerrard was sent off at home to Everton for two quick-fire yellow cards before Phil Neville put us ahead at the end of the first half with a superb headed own goal from a corner. Luis García put us 2-0 up with a beautiful lob soon after the restart, our 500th home Premiership goal. Tim Cahill headed the visitors back into the game with one of his five goals against us, also their hundredth League goal in an Anfield derby. Substitute Andy van der Meyde was sent off for elbowing Xabi Alonso just five minutes after coming on before Harry Kewell rounded off
