Transfer deadline day drama 2011 – We broke our record transfer twice in the same day, first when Luis Suárez arrived from Ajax for a fee of £22.8m. We then signed Andy Carroll for a British record £35m, with Fernando Torres then joining Chelsea for £50m, another British record. On the same day, left-back Paul Konchesky joined Nottingham Forest on loan while young midfielder Conor Thomas arrived from Coventry City on a temporary basis, although the move was not made permanent. Meanwhile, El-Hadji Diouf joined Rangers on loan from Blackburn Rovers and Daniel Sturridge joined Bolton Wande

Off the mark 2018 – Dutch centre-half Virgil van Dijk scored on his reds bow as we beat Everton 2-1 in the FA Cup Third Round at Anfield. James Milner opened the scoring from the spot after a foul on Adam Lallana, with Gylfi Sigurdsson netting the most recent of his four goals past us to level the scores. Our new record signing nodded in the winner late on to send the crowd into raptures. Happy birthdays 1957 - David Fairclough was born in Liverpool. He signed pro terms in January 1974, bagging 55 goals in 154 reds games, two-fifths of which were from off the bench. The bionic carrot

Team of the Year 2001 - We were named Team of the Year at the BBC’s Sports Personality Of The Year ceremony. Ian Rush presented the award to the recovering Gérard Houllier, who said, “My thoughts and my thanks go to my players. Not only this season’s players, but also the players who have left, like Christian and Robbie. I would also like to express my gratitude to David Moores, Rick Parry and the board because they have all been very supportive of what we are trying to do. I would like to thank my backroom staff because you don’t win things just like that. Above all I would like to thank th

Derby spoils shared 1996 - Robbie Fowler headed us in front in the Anfield derby on the half-hour mark with his ninth goal in seven games, but Gary Speed nodded in a late equaliser. Steve McManaman was playing in his 106th consecutive reds game, but missed Wimbledon’s visit three days later. This game was postponed from a month earlier. A new stadium 1999 - We played our first official game at Sunderland’s new Stadium Of Light, as goals from Michael Owen and Patrik Berger gave us a 2-0 win. A win at the Bridge 2011 – We won 2-1 at Chelsea when Maxi Rodríguez opened the scoring.

Another charitable win 1982 - We beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Wembley to claim the FA Charity Shield outright for the sixth time, thanks to an extra-time strike from Ian Rush. David Hodgson made his first-class reds debut in this game. A sponsored run-out 1979 - We became the first English club to wear sponsored shirts when Hitachi was emblazoned on the red kit for the first time during a goalless draw with Bolton Wanderers at Anfield. Rafa’s got his Dirk Kuyt 2006 - Dirk Kuyt signed from Feyenoord for £9m, with then Chairman David Moores having to lend the club the money for the transfer. He proved a willing worker, notching 71 times in 285 outings, including our consolation in the Champions League Final in Athens in 2007 and five derby strikes. He helped the club to claim the Carling Cup and reach the FA Cup Final in his final season before moving on to Fenerbahçe SK for €1m in June 2012. Rushie returns 1988 - Ian Rush re-signed for the reds from Juventus for a club record £2.8m, having only spent one season with

Arrivederci JAR 2008 - John Arne Riise was sold to Roma for £4m after 348 reds appearances and 31 goals since his arrival for the same fee from AS Monaco in June 2001. He helped us to win the European Cup, FA Cup League Cup, two UEFA Super Cups and two FA Charity Shields in his time at Anfield. 1937 – Forward Ted Harston signed from Mansfield Town for £300,000 after an amazing 81 goals in seventy Third Division North outings.
