Supersub’s night 1977 - One of Anfield’s greatest ever nights took place as ‘les verts’ of Saint-Étienne arrived with a 1-0 first-leg lead in the European Cup Quarter-final. We eventually won 3-1 on the night, with David Fairclough grabbing the crucial third after Kevin Keegan’s early speculative long-distance strike from a corner had been cancelled out by Dominique Bathenay’s second-half thirty-yard thunderbolt. Ray Kennedy gave us the lead on the night, but we still trailed on aggregate before Supersub’s late winner. 1983 - We beat Widzew Lódz 3-2 in L4 at the same stage, with Ian Rus

Rafa’s century 2009 – Rafael Benítez secured his hundredth League win as reds boss as we came from behind to trounce Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from the spot but Fernando Torres hounded Nemanja Vidić into a mistake before coolly slotting home the equaliser, with Steven Gerrard converting a penalty a minute before the break. The hapless Vidić was sent off against the reds for the second time that season with a quarter of an hour to go, with Fábio Aurélio netting from the resultant free-kick. The day was complete when Andrea Dossena struck his s

Kenny steps down 1991 - Kenny Dalglish announced his resignation as reds boss in a press conference at Anfield. He had been in charge for nearly six years, leading us to the double in his first season, and a further two League titles, FA Cup, two FA Charity Shields and Screen Sport Super Cup. The pressures of management, and his role in counselling players, supporters and the city of Liverpool in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster led to him stepping down. Heading towards Istanbul 2005 - We beat Bayer 04 Leverkusen 3-1 at Anfield in the first leg of our Champions League round

  7. New bosses 1959 - Bill Shankly was appointed reds boss, with the intention that he would take over in the New Year. However, he was in place just thirteen days later. He had led Huddersfield Town to 49 wins in 129 League games in charge, but could not get them out of the Second Division. The great man achieved his aim of turning the reds into a ‘bastion of invincibility’ as he led us out of the Second Division and then to three League titles, two FA Cups, the UEFA Cup and FA Charity Shield, before shocking the football world with his resignation in July 1974. 2010 - Tom Werner took over

Another super win 2005 - We fell behind to a goal from CSKA Moskva’s Velizar Dimitrov in Monaco, but a brace from substitute Djibril Cissé and a Luis García strike secured us the UEFA Super Cup for the third time, 3-1 after extra time, as we reached a century of goals under the stewardship of Rafael Benítez. The cup was lifted by stand-in skipper Jamie Carragher. Danny’s wonder goal 2006 - Daniel Agger scored his first reds goal, a superb long-range effort to level the scores in our 2-1 home defeat of West Ham United after Bobby Zamora had put the Hammers ahead in our fiftieth League
