    Lucas

There was a gaping hole in the squad if Lucas got injured and to spend about 20 million on two non tackling midfielders borders on incompetence, whether kenny's or comolli's. I'd sell Adam and spearing this summer and spend some money on one midfielder who's incredibly mobile and will make lots of tackles, there are loads of them about.
  2. The guy who plays Phil Dunphy in modern family is doing a brilliant job.
  3. Is standard chartered's main area if expansion in the far east? Are there not methods of quantifying levels of new business derived from specific promotions or advertising activity? Even a simple before and after snap shot of 6 months pre/post sponsorship would give a basis on which to extrapolate some rough figures.
  4. I think what I mean by athleticism is his ability to sprint over 5, 10, and 20 metres, his stamina, his sharpness of movement and his ability to handle contact situations. I just don't see that he's got enough in those respects. If you're small you have to have some really exceptional attributes like the players named by Maldini. Is Suso that exceptional? I'm really not sure. The flip side is that sterling stands a better chance because even in senior football his pace over 5 metres from a standing start or even the threat of his pace, will always create space for him to play in. I always wondered whether Nemeth had the physical ability to step up and could see straight away that jack Hobbs was never going to be a top class player. Got some wrong too though! Just read yellow jumper's post and very much agree with that!
  5. Suso is talented but doesn't have the athleticism to make it.
  6. He's on a free this summer i think. Would get him in with a view to a coaching role. He comes across brilliantly as a pundit too.
  7. I don't think it was a rib at all , despite Kenny saying so. I remember a mate telling me that when it was reported that Kirkland had broken a finger by trying to save a shot by Kewell, it was actually a load of nonsense and it was yet another back injury, but the club didn't want anyone in the press reporting that we had a permanently crocked keeper. I think Agger is in the same boat. He's got a chronic back problem so bad that at times he's had to stand up on the plane on the journey back from a European away game so that his back doesn't stiffen up. Looking at how he was moving during the celebrations at the CC it looked like a back problem to me.
  8. The only thing Danny lacked was a few yards of pace. He's certainly a more intelligent footballer than Chad. In some ways this is just an awful situation... to be talking about the merits of a player who isn't of the standard we really need. He's got talent, but for it to thrive he needs a freer role than he's ever going to get at Liverpool and even then, you look at the stories of Utd buying Javi Martinez and you just die a little more inside.
  9. he was and he's a massive, massive pain in the a*** to play against. Still reckon you can draw fouls from him though.
  10. Charlie isn't going to learn. Our best option is to get rid. If, as suggested, he's looking to leave, for the fee we get for Chad we could get Keita from Barcelona for a few seasons to tide us over. He'd make more tackles and retain possession much better. He's 32 though, so AC Milan will probably buy him.
  11. Had a cruiciate injury this season - hasn't played. Still worth a gamble I reckon.
  12. There are loads of decent bosmans this summer, some we should consider. Flamini, Rodallega (as back up), Farfan, Hoilett (with compensation).
  13. Thought the best thing about Everton was the way they pressed. They did the same to Swansea and came out on top. I think we'll struggle against that, and there's a few things we really need to happen. Coates must play instead of Carragher and try to find his midfielders rather than lumping it long. Bellamy being fit would push their back line a bit deeper and create some gaps between their lines. We also need a 3 man midfield with Gerrard as the most advanced. He'll worry the hell out of Fellaini and Gibson and he's the one that could find the pass to Suarez. Think people are going over the top about Everton's performance though. Sunderland were utterly woeful, with Bendter putting in a Paul Stewart against Tranmere performance of complete ineptitude. If we're clever, I'm certain we can also get Fellaini sent off for persistent fouling. He got lucky that he didn't get a booking for fouling Sessegnon earlier on in the game.
  14. Good luck mate. You're a positive sort, so get stuck in and beat this horrible f***ing thing.
  15. Rogers is pretty clear that most teams can play like Swansea but in an interview hinted that most managers don't have the bottle for it, because managerial jobs are too pressured. He also said before the premiership that Swansea would outplay lots of teams. Think he's got a lot about him. You' ve got to be really organised and into technical details to get the set of players he has to play like they have. Currently the british manager most likely to get a top 6 job should one become available.
  16. I'd agree with that, but I still think going into this season without a top class replacement for Lucas was ridiculous. Jay likes a tackle but his speed over 20-30yards to try and make recovery tackles, or to get over to cover full backs just isn't there and it leaves us really exposed.
  17. I like him because he looks like a proper football manager, in the same way that Glenn Roeder never looked like a football manager.
  18. Agree with this completely. Said so earlier in the thread.
  19. Coady was dreadful the other night. He took up some bizarre positions in midfield, Ajax found it very easy to pass around him, he's not athletic enough or pacy enough and he's not intelligent enough with the ball.
  20. I feel sorry for those in the army who have to do it for a living. I can't imagine having to kill people on a daily basis. I realise it's kill or be killed when it's a war situation, but it's no wonder that lots of people suffer post traumatic stress after or even during their time of service. Ican't believe soldiers aren't affected by the horrific sights in war or that they are killing men with innocent children just like them. I once read that during the world wars soldiers didn't shoot to kill, but shot to wound, and that it's a more modern phenomenon that soldiers try to shoot to kill. War..... What is it good for?
  21. I was waiting for a bit more to that story. Was thinking, surely he's not going to just say he once saw a young Steven Gerrard playing footie in the road. Neil moved it on well though and made nice use of the word 'effusive' going into the first ad break.
  22. Shortest joke in the world... Venison. Dear isn't it?
  23. I wouldn't mind bagging a white rhino though, there's hardly any left in the wild now, next year or so is probably my last chance.
  24. Ahh but they only did it once, not ten, err five... no..... seven times.....or something.
  25. Next year could be a big one for Sterling, he'll frighten a few tired defenders coming on as a sub
