Been taking this in since the bombshell last Friday. Apologies if this rambles but a couple of points keep popping into my mind.
Under his stewardship, the one thing I always felt was certainty. We weren’t going to screw up many transfers or lose too many games because, Jurgen was there and he would make things right. A safety blanket, a surety, a confidence. Now we are having to feel what other clubs feel and experience without knowing what is going to happen.
We will replace the manager but we can’t replace the man who got us and led us the way we wanted to be led. This aspect allowed us, the players and the owners all to benefit from him being him. Such a weight to carry.
He builds trust in his young players and as such they come into the system without fear of failure and ready to play. This pathway is something he cherished and nurtured and is as critical to the thinking of who comes next as much as the first team is.
I really don’t know who fits the bill (or should I say brill?) but the condition it is being left in must make it the job to have for any manager anywhere and that is his legacy as much as trophies given the state of it when he arrived.
