Fourteen not out
2006 - We won our fourteenth consecutive match, a club record, as we beat a poorly-supported Chelsea 2-1 at Cardiff to claim the FA Community Shield for the tenth time outright. John Arne Riise opened the scoring having run almost the full length of the pitch with the ball, with Peter Crouch heading in the winner from a Craig Bellamy cross after Andriy Shevchenko had equalised. Fábio Aurélio made his reds bow as a second-half substitute. Unfortunately, we drew our next game, 1-1 at Sheffield United.
Charity begins away from home
1966 - We claimed our first outright FA Charity Shield, defeating Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park thanks to a 25-yard strike from Roger Hunt. Hunt and Everton’s Ray Wilson had paraded the World Cup trophy round the pitch before the match.
1977 - Kenny Dalglish made his reds debut as we played out a goalless draw with Manchester United at Wembley. The trophy was shared between the two clubs.
2011 – Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, José Enrique and Jordan Henderson all made their reds bows as we were held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield by Sunderland in our season opener. Luis Suárez missed a penalty before then heading in, with Stewart Downing rattling the crossbar before the break. However, Sebastian Larsson equalised in the second half.
Wingers in and out

2013 - Stewart Downing was sold to West Ham United for £6m after seven goals in 91 outings since arriving from Aston Villa for £18.5m in July 2011. His finest hour came as we claimed the Carling Cup at Wembley in February 2012, scoring in the shoot-out.

A poor start

2002 - We were beaten 1-0 at Chester City in a humiliating reverse just before the start of the new season. Salif Diao made his first reds appearance in a game played to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Deva Stadium, against a Chester side managed by ex-red Mark Wright, and featuring Steve Harkness.

2009 - Fernando Torres signed a new improved contract to keep him at Anfield until 2013. He notched an impressive 81 goals in 142 reds games after signing from Club Atlético de Madrid for a club record £20.2m in July 2007, moving on to Chelsea for £50m in January 2011.
