Johnson yesterday: "COP26 will mark the beginning of the end for climate change".

We're f***ed aren't we? He is utterly delusional. The least we can hope for is leaders who at least understand the problem even if they don't have a solution. That statement tells us that he has no clue whatsoever. Like he thinks someone can invent an anti-climate change spray can that we squirt at the sky and it'll all be fixed.

Like COVID he’ll be seeing a great way to “legitimately” syphon billions of government spending to his mates without changing or solving a damn thing

It's ok - we got this

"The world's biggest carbon-removal plant just opened. In a year, it'll negate just 3 seconds' worth of global emissions."

It’s good news. In ten year’s time these kind of facilities will extract half of global carbon emissions (through volume of them and increase in effectiveness). The problem is that the damage is already done.

Half of all current emissions? Or half of the increased emissions associated with an ever expanding economy?

These massive techno fixes are a distraction that allow people to continue with the fantasy of an ever expanding economy

Yes I'm sure, like all those companies owned by his mates and his mate's mates that at the start of the pandemic suddenly started specialising in PPE despite never having done so in the past - property companies and the like that overnight became importers of PPE and won multi million pound contracts - nothing strange there at all.

Maybe they will now diversify into Green Technology business.

Just got this email. Sounds good.

Plastic-eating mushrooms?!

Photo of a whale shark about to swallow a plastic bag floating in the ocean.

Paul,

How amazing is this -- scientists have discovered mushrooms that can devour plastic waste in a matter of weeks...plastic that would otherwise just be in the ocean forever.

Right now 91% of plastics we use can’t be recycled -- and every minute a truckload-worth is dumped in the ocean, suffocating sea life and spreading pollutants across shores.

But scientists say these mushrooms could eat up to half of the plastic waste being dumped in the ocean -- and they need your help to finish their groundbreaking research.

Scientist Dr Cullings is retiring from NASA this year to join the nonprofit Ocean Blue Project in their work to isolate and reproduce plastic-eaters for industrial use. They have projects planned in the US and New Zealand that need funding. If 5000 of us chip in, we can pay for the lab equipment they need to finish their research -- and help rid the planet of plastic waste.

From the Budget...

Internal domestic flights will have air passenger duty cut. Sunak says 9 million passengers will have their duty cut by half, “bringing people together across the UK”.

Flies (pun intended) in the face of the supposed commitment to tackle climate change - I mean no one should be routinely taking internal flights in this country really.

Scrapping the fuel duty raise also goes against the climate change message somewhat too but at least that's saving money for more people, on a range of incomes, than the internal flights thing which is only really of benefit to the rich.
