Black holes, space, time...high content stuff

Seeing the image of this black hole sent me down a Google / YouTube wormhole.

 

M87 is about 50-60m light years away ( first head f*** ) and approx 1,000 times larger than the black hole in our galaxy, Sagittarius A.

 

Standing at the event horizon, you’d be able to see the back of your own head, and one theory that I hadn’t previously entertained was the possibility of an object past the horizon that was responsible for the black hole effect...like a galactic Mark Lawrenson sucking all life and matter out of space.

Was watching a programme last night about black holes, and their theoretical possibility; but improbability; as put forward by Einstein.

 

One thing they kept describing was their creation from the collapse of a star, and that there are most likely thousands of them in our own galaxy. But what they didn't seem to touch on was, how and from what are super-massive black holes at the centre of galaxies formed?

Probably mergers of many black holes as gravity has concentrated stars and matter at the centre of galaxies.
