I am looking at getting an android box at home and wondered if anyone recommended a particular one?

Obviously I want to put XBMC and all that on it too...

My son will be getting a Hudl for his birthday and so will want to be able to do the 'airplay' from that onto the tv too

anyone got any advice? Or should I just get the Amazon fire TV thingy

Chromecast is the cheapest, easiest option. This will let you cast from the Hudl, would also mean you could set up a Plex server on any PC you have and cast local media from it, you wont need XBMC then.

Lets pretend i'm and idiot and you have to break it down real simple for me. What exactly do i get out of it, in terms of quality free stuff?

The Chromecast itself just lets you play media on the TV, the content comes from the web or a local source. You could cast from a browser or from an Android/iOS device. There are apps for Android like Showbox and PopcornTime which will let you stream not totally legal movies and tv shows to it for free. You can do the same thing with paid services like Netflix.

Presuming this is illegal?

Define illegal? The box itself isn't the content maybe. Iptv streams that are readily available on the net if you know where to look. These boxes take all that hassle away from you. I'm selling android m8n boxes with wireless keypads and 3 months after care for £100. I change the standard rom for one that is faster. The stock ones are bobbins. My boxes come loaded but not fully loaded as that's just s***e sales pitch. I have been working with xbmc for 12months and have a good angle on what's good to put on these boxes and what's not. They only come with 8gb of storage. You can add an external drive to the. But there really is little need as these boxes stream and aren't really for downloading. You get anything and everything in varying quality. Anyone who has seen my Facebook page at 3pm on a Saturday will know the quality of the football streams from NBC Sports Live. Almost any film can watched in 3d hd SD etc. It has 4k capabilities but there is no content at the moment. It great for TV series kids TV. I run my box alongside my sat box. My sat box is hardly on these days. I have a Linux sat box.... I'm not giving murdoch any money.

Xbmc certainly has more capabilities to it than just a Chromecast and a hudl. You could put xbmc on a hudl but in my experience you tend to lose more than you gain with sending it all over wifi and taking up hudls ram. Typing this on a phone. Can give more answers later if needs be.....once I'm out of this hospital. Don't worry folks it's not terminal.....yet

Ive got XBMC running on a nettop which I use solely for playing movies off a NAS, I've never had much luck with addons. I'm not particularly bothered about streaming movies but I'd be interested to hear which ones you recommend for sport, I've tried sportsdevil obviously but the quality has always been terrible.

You've barely scratched the surface. There are about another 13 or so free sports ones and another 10+ paid sports addons if you want to go down that route. It took me a fair while to work it all out. The information is readily available online.... Go have a look.

You can watch acestream links sopcast links iptv links flash links. I have never struggled to find a quality Liverpool stream.

In short yes. But it's not worth the hassle. Anything you want to watch is going to be on one of addons somewhere. For example Better Call Saul was available to watch a couple of hours after it was broadcast on amc. You could have watched in amc if you had wanted too. But what with time difference I thought it best to wait. I watched it on Tuesday team time hours before it was available on UK Netflix

That's interesting, I often use sopcast and acestream on the laptop but I wasn't aware there were addons available for XBMC, just reading about p2p-streams.

Just discovered US TV VOD. Was gonna send you a message on Facebook. You probably already know it, but if not, it's great for non-cable American TV.

Hope the hozzy visit isn't anything serious mate..

am very tempted with one of these boxes you are selling... Bit more than I was looking to spend but I guess rather get from a good source than a randomer off ebay.. I was looking at sideloading the amazon one but prefer to get one already done.

Yeah meant the content rather than the box being illegal. Anyone ever get done? A lot of what you say is over my head but I'm tentatively interested at the moment.

They won't do anything. They tend to shut down at source rather than at end user. They go after the hosts. Like Wiziwig.tv a football streaming site...that bit the dust the other week. As one falls another one two three six rise! I'd safe your safe for a very long time. Governments don't really give a monkeys. The big studios make noises and some site gets shut down. Look at Piratebay and Kickass. They keep disappearing and reappearing.

As for P2P Moose yeah it's alive and well on Android and XBMC.

Again ask Bad News Bear what he thinks of his box that he got off me.
