Alan Irvine sacked by West Brom - Pulis favourite to take over.

And did anyone see Carra burst out laughing when he heard that Colocinni was favourite to take over from Pardew?

Yeah. I didn't like it to be honest. If he's laughing at the idiocy of Sky's rumour mill then fair enough, but if I was Colocinni I'd be pretty annoyed at that.

I think it was probably a genuine reaction though, sometimes you just can't help react like that.

I loved it but then it was exactly how I reacted... I think the laugh is more likely aimed at Newcastle's thinking than at Colocinni.

He's a billionaire.

Maybe not the shrewdest club chairman/owner ever but he's pretty good at the business side of things by all accounts - his account especially.

Yeah that's what I meant. An 8yr contract to any manager, let alone Pardew, is madness and the guy is going to get some £2.5m for that...........

Well he got lucky in that a club such as Palace (Pardew played for them etc) wanted Pardew at a time when his stock is slightly better than it has been in recent years. An 8yr contract for any manager remains madness in the eyes of most.

If you think giving managers (or players for that matter) an 8yr contract makes sense, then tell us why.

I am not necessarily extolling the virtues of giving a Manager an 8 year contract but it has clearly worked out well for that novice businessman Mike Ashley on this occasion.

I guess he was just lucky (again).

He might be an objectionalbe fat cockney c*** (from Burnham actually - and we all know what people are like there!!) ... but to suggest that he isn't an astute businessman is just bizarre.

As a pointed out later, I was talking about his dealings in football and not in business outside of football. Plenty of successful businessmen failed to run a football club . properly. In this case I do think that he was lucky as Pardew is hardly a sought after manager in the football world. To have him on an 8yr deal raised loads of eyebrows and no one saw the sense in it unless there was more than meets the eye (post above re his gambling debts might be a plausible explanation).

No-one saw the sense in it apart from Mike Ashley ... and now he's reaping the benefits.

That makes it a pretty smart move, in my opinion.

But as you say - maybe he just got lucky.

i wonder if he'd react the same way if they offered him the job? maybe he would.

Yeah I remember that - there some rumour about Pardew being on very low money (for a Premiership Manager) as Ashley had covered some gambling debts of Pardew's.

Heard that too. Didn't Lambias run a Casino or something?

Apparently the 8 year contract had quite strong performance criteria which allowed for short notice to be given (eg finishing above 10th). So Pardew more tied to the job than vice-versa. The resultant compensation presumably settles his account.

  • 4 years later...

The least surprising Brexiteer imaginable:

“"Why did we have a referendum in the first bloody place? I can't wait to get out if I'm honest. I think we'll be far better out of the bloody thing. In every aspect. To hell with the rest of the world.”

Worra c***

If Brexit had a face, it would be this idiots. He is paid wages by a Malaysian, uses players from ten foreign nations, including five national team players, yet launches a pro Brexit rant
