1975 - Jimmy Case scored a hat-trick as we beat Polish side Slask Wroclaw 3-0 at Anfield in our UEFA Cup Third Round second leg tie, with Ray Clemence a virtual spectator, to progress 5-1 on aggregate on our way to claiming the trophy for the second time.
1949 - Willie Fagan struck our 3,000th League goal as we lost 3-2 at Huddersfield Town, with Ken Brierley also on target. Vic Metcalfe netted the first of his six goals against the reds, with John McKenna and Jeff Taylor also on the scoresheet.

2000 - Igor Bišcan made his reds bow as a substitute for Christian Ziege as a Marcus Stewart goal handed Ipswich Town victory at Anfield. This came just three days after his arrival in L4.
2017 – We were held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield by Everton. Mohamed Salah put us ahead before the break, but Wayne Rooney equalised from the spot when a soft penalty was awarded against Dejan Lovren, the most recent of his seven goals past us to date.
2015 – Jordan Rossiter payed his fifth and last game for the club as we were held to a goalless draw in our UEFA Europa League game at Sion.
2011 – Luis Suárez headed the only goal of our League meeting with Queens Park Rangers at Anfield shortly after the break.
2005 - Chris Riggott was sent off for Middlesbrough as Fernando Morientes bagged a brace in a 2-0 victory at Anfield. This was our tenth straight game without conceding a goal, equalling our record from the 1987/88 season.
We have only won five of our sixteen first-class games played on this day over the years, all at Anfield, with the other victories being as follows.
1960 - We beat Swansea Town 4-0, with Alan A’Court and Dave Hickson adding to a Kevin Lewis brace.
1921 - Danny Shone and Dick Forshaw scored to hand us a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, with keeper Frank Mitchell playing his eighteenth and final reds game.
Bye bye Beeby
1910 - Keeper Augustus Beeby played his sixteenth and final reds game as we lost 3-0 at Bury in a top-flight fixture, with outside-right Arthur Goddard playing his 300th League game for the club. Billy Hibbert bagged two of his thirteen strikes against the reds, with Tom Kay nabbing the last of his five past us. It could have been worse as Jack Dewhurst blasted a penalty over the bar just before half time with the score 1-0, after centre-half Jimmy Harrop had handled in the box.
Losing to Brum
We lost twice to Birmingham City on this day in the space of five years.
1927 - Gordon Hodgson struck twice in a minute as we were beaten 3-2 at Anfield. It was his last game for more than two months as he was struck down with pneumonia. George Briggs struck two of his ten goals against the reds, with Stan Davies netting the last of his four past us.
1932 – Bob Gregg bagged a treble as we lost another top-flight meeting 3-0 at St. Andrews.
Honours even at Old Trafford
1966 - Ian St. John netted twice as we drew 2-2 at Manchester United. George Best bagged a brace for the home side, two of his seven goals past us, which included a spot-kick on this occasion.
Ton up for Jack
1938 - Forward Jack Balmer played his hundredth reds game as Grimsby Town held us to a 2-2 draw in our Second Division meeting at Anfield. Berry Nieuwenhuys and Willie Fagan struck our goals.
Trebles for and against
1983 - Terry Gibson scored a hat-trick for Coventry City as they thumped us 4-0 at Highfield Road, with Nick Platnauer opening the scoring after just forty seconds.
1904 - Jack Parkinson scored a treble as we drew a friendly with Corinthians 3-3 in Leytonstone, with the reds also having a penalty saved.
On the move
1998 - Peter Beardsley was released by Fulham. He racked up a total of 28 appearances for them, including during two brief loan spells, scoring seven times. He moved on to Third Division Hartlepool United at the end of that month.
2013 - Yossi Benayoun signed for Queens Park Rangers having been released by Chelsea, netting three times in seventeen outings before returning to Israel to join Maccabi Haifa last June.
1969 - Emlyn Hughes won his second full cap for England as they beat Portugal 1-0 in a friendly at Wembley.
1999 - Fábio Aurélio played his first game for Brazil, although this was an unofficial international. The result was a 3-0 defeat of Bolivia in Cuiabá.
2001 - Roy Hodgson was sacked as Manager of Udinese after just four months in charge. He later claimed that he had wanted to leave so was happy to be sacked. His next job was as national team boss for the United Arab Emirates.
1985 – Midfielder Charlie Adam was born in Dundee. He signed from Blackpool for an initial £6.75m in July 2011, netting twice in 37 reds games and helping us to claim the League Cup before moving to Stoke City for a reported £4m in August 2012.
1988 - Former reserves custodian Dave Roberts was born in Birkenhead. He moved up to Melwood in the summer of 2006 and was back-up keeper to David Martin. He had played a key role in our two victorious FA Youth Cup campaigns, including saving penalties in a shoot-out in the Semi-final in 2006 and the Final the following year, but was released in May 2007.
1913 - Matthew John Fitzsimmons was born in Toxteth. He signed from Mather United in October 1936 and played his only senior reds game when he stood in for regular centre-half Fred Rogers in our 3-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers in September 1938.
1923 – Right-winger Alex Muir was born in Inverkeithing, Fife. He signed from Lochgelly Violet in July 1947, the same club that Billy Liddell was signed from. He only played four senior games before joining South Liverpool in 1949.
