YNWA takes a look back at previous memorable home meetings as we prepare to visit Blackpool for the 21st time in the League on Wednesday. We have a pretty good away record against them, having won eight, drawn four and been beaten eight times.
Jimmy Smith scored a hat-trick as we won 3-1 in October 1930.
We won 3-0 in November 1904 with Robbie Robinson netting a brace and Jack Parkinson also on target on our first visit to Bloomfield Road. This was the sixth consecutive game in which Robinson had scored, in which time he had struck a total of ten times.
Len Carney played his sixth and final senior reds game as we lost 2-0 in November 1947.
Peter Thompson and Roger Hunt were on the scoresheet as we won 2-1 in September 1966. Willie Stevenson had a penalty saved by Blackpool goalkeeper Alan Taylor shortly after the home team had equalised, but Hunt grabbed a late winner.
We held Blackpool to a goalless draw in August 1970, our most recent visit to Bloomfield Road.
We were thumped 4-1 in November 1932, with Dave Wright nabbing our consolation. We lost 3-0 on Christmas Day 1950, and by the same score in April 1954. That was our last game of the season as we were relegated to the Second Division for the first time in almost fifty years.
