A century against the Baggies

2005 - Peter Crouch scored our hundredth home League goal against West Bromwich Albion as we won 1-0 at Anfield, to secure our tenth consecutive League victory. This was the third consecutive game that Crouchie had notched in, inside a week.

Gary Mac honoured

2001 - Gary McAllister was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for his services to football. He had been a professional footballer for twenty years, winning the League title while with Leeds United, as well as helping the reds to a famous treble earlier that year.

2008 - Kenny Dalglish’s wife Marina was awarded the MBE for her charity work.

2010 - Former reds Chairman Martin Broughton was knighted for services to business.

Nap hand for Boro

1960 - Middlesbrough won for the fifth consecutive League season at Anfield, as an Alan A’Court goal and brace from Kevin Lewis could not prevent us going down to a 4-3 defeat. This was A’Court’s fiftieth reds strike, while wing-half Bobby Campbell was playing his 25th and final reds game. Brian Clough netted two of his ten strikes against the reds, with Alan Peacock also on target and John Molyneux putting through his own net.

Derby stalemate

1966 - The derby played at Anfield ended in a goalless draw.

Twice against the Bantams

We have twice visited Valley Parade on this day in history.

1921 - We held them to a goalless draw.

150 smiles

1927 – Forward Harry ‘Smiler’ Chambers netted his 150th reds goal as we beat Sheffield United 2-1 in a First Division meeting at Anfield, with Tom Reid also on target.

More victories

1892 - Other reds wins on this day include a 6-2 thumping of Heywood Central at Anfield in the Lancashire League. Malcolm McVean and Tom Wyllie both struck braces with our other goals scored by Matt McQueen and John Miller.

1898 - George Allan struck from the spot as we won 3-0 at The Wednesday’s Olive Grove ground, to add to a John Walker strike and an own goal from keeper Jimmy Massey.

1938 - Phil Taylor nabbed a brace with Willie Fagan converting a penalty and Jack Balmer also on the scoresheet as we beat Preston North End 4-1 at Anfield, with Matt Busby playing his hundredth reds game.

1977 – We secured a 2-0 victory at Newcastle United thanks to goals from Phil Thompson and Kenny Dalglish.

1983 - Ian Rush grabbed the only goal of the game at Nottingham Forest.

On the move

1987 - Mark Walters joined Rangers from Aston Villa for £550,000. He spent four seasons at Ibrox, netting 51 times in 143 games, before moving to Anfield in August 1991 to rejoin Graeme Souness.

2007 - Chester City announced that John Welsh would join on loan from Hull City when the transfer window opened the following day. He played six times for the Blues.

2011 – Centre-half Danny Wilson joined Blackpool on loan, playing ten first-team games for the Tangerines.
