Deano not guilty
1992 - We beat Chelsea 2-1 at Anfield, our most recent game on this day in history. Dean Saunders, who headed us in front, injured Paul Elliott in a challenge that ended his career, for which Deano was later unsuccessfully sued. Jamie Redknapp netted our last-minute winner, while this was Saunders' 61st and final reds game before moving to Aston Villa.
1908 - We also beat the Blues at Anfield by the same score, when Ronald Orr grabbed a brace.
Debutants galore
1903 - Sydney Smith scored on his reds debut, although we lost 2-1 at Nottingham Forest in our season opener, with forward Fred Buck and right-back John Chadburn also making their reds bows.
1967 - We travelled to the City Ground again, with Emlyn Hughes bagging the only goal of the game, as Gerry Byrne played his 300th reds game.
1934 - Centre-half Norman Low debuted in our 2-1 home win over Manchester City, deputising for Tom Bradshaw. Sam English and Gordon Hodgson netted our goals.
Off the mark
1959 - Winger John Morrissey nabbed his first reds goal as we suffered a 2-1 Second Division defeat at Sheffield United when we conceded two penalties inside three minutes.
1928 - We also faced the Blades, losing our top-flight meeting at Anfield 2-1, with Dick Edmed nabbing our consolation. Scottish-born South African international full-back Jimmy Gray played his only reds game.
Nice one Cyril
1942 - Cyril Done bagged a treble as we beat Wrexham 4-0 in a Wartime League game at Anfield. Dickie Dorsett struck the other.
A refereeing record
1896 - Referee C.E. Sutcliffe disallowed six goals in our First Division match at Blackburn Rovers, still a League record. He only permitted one strike to count, unfortunately scored by Rovers.
An Addicks first
1936 - Charlton Athletic played their first ever home game in the First Division as we held them to a 1-1 draw at The Valley, with Alf Hanson on the scoresheet.
International shame
1998 - Reds midfielder Paul Ince became only the sixth England player to be sent off, as they lost 2-1 to Sweden in a Euro 2000 qualifier in Stockholm. Michael Owen won his tenth cap in this game, having a goal disallowed for offside and getting booked, while Jamie Redknapp also featured. On the same day, Wales lost 2-0 to Italy in a qualifier played at Anfield. Ex-red Dean Saunders and future red Paul Jones both appeared for the Welsh.
Also on the same day, Steve Staunton won his first cap in his second spell as a reds player as the Republic of Ireland beat Croatia 2-0 in another qualifier at Lansdowne Road. Fellow reds Phil Babb and Jason McAteer and future red Robbie Keane also played. Future red Fernando Morientes was on target as Spain lost 3-2 in Cyprus, while future reds Markus Babbel, Sami Hyypiä and Jari Litmanen all also featured in qualifiers.
Brucie on the move again
1998 - Bruce Grobbelaar signed for Bury from Chesham United on non-contract terms. He only made one senior appearance, in a 1-0 First Division defeat at Birmingham City, before moving on again to Lincoln City.
World Cup scorers
2001 - Several reds were on the mark for their countries in World Cup qualifiers. Michael Owen struck England's opener in their 2-0 defeat of Albania at St. James' Park, with Robbie Fowler netting his final international goal to send them top of their group. Nick Barmby, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Emile Heskey all also featured, as did ex-red Steve McManaman. Meanwhile, Jari Litmanen scored from the spot in Finland's 5-1 thumping of Greece in Helsinki. His club-mate Sami Hyypiä also played.
Imminent red Milan Baroš was also on target as the Czech Republic saw off Malta 3-2 in Teplice. Bolo Zenden bagged his first goal as a Chelsea player as the Netherlands beat Estonia 5-0 in Eindhoven. Craig Bellamy nabbed his first goal for Wales while with Newcastle United as they lost 3-2 in Norway, with John Arne Riise, ex-red Øyvind Leonhardsen and future red Paul Jones all also featuring. Also in international action that day were Jerzy Dudek, ex-reds Brad Friedel, Don Hutchison, Jim Magilton and Dominic Matteo and future red Fernando Morientes.
2009 - Ex-red John Arne Riise netted as Norway drew 1-1 with Iceland in a World Cup qualifier in Reykjavik. Ex-red Daniel Sjölund played for Finland as they won 2-1 in Azerbaijan, coming on as a substitute and later himself being replaced. On the same day, ex-red Robbie Keane was on target in the Republic of Ireland's 2-1 win in Cyprus, while ex-red Milan Baroš struck as the Czech Republic drew 2-2 with Martin Škrtel's Slovakia in Bratislava. Yossi Benayoun, Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Dirk Kuyt, Albert Riera, Fernando Torres, Andriy Voronin and future reds Christian Poulsen and Luis Suárez and ex-reds Xabi Alonso, Nicolas Anelka, Álvaro Arbeloa, Emile Heskey, Jari Litmanen and Rigobert Song also featured in internationals that day.
Thumped in the North East
1892 - W. MacArthur scored a first-half hat-trick as Middlesbrough Ironopolis beat us 5-0 at their Paradise Ground in a friendly.
Joy against the Seasiders
We twice faced Blackpool in top-flight fixtures on this day in the 1960's, scoring twice on each occasion, and not tasting defeat.
1964 - Peter Thompson and Roger Hunt were on the scoresheet as we were held to a 2-2 draw in L4.
1966 - The same players netted as we won 2-1 at Bloomfield Road. Willie Stevenson had a penalty saved by Blackpool goalkeeper Alan Taylor shortly after the home team had equalised, but Hunt grabbed a late winner.
Level with the Londoners
We have twice faced both Arsenal and West Ham United on this day in history, winning once and drawing on the other three occasions.
1925 - We were held to a goalless draw at Anfield by the Hammers.
1987 - John Aldridge was on target from the spot as we left Upton Park with a 1-1 draw.

1999 - Future red Yossi Benayoun bagged his first senior international goal as Israel lost a Euro 2000 qualifier 3-2 in Cyprus.
2002 - He won his first cap as a Real Racing Club de Santander player in their 5-0 friendly win in Luxembourg.
Kozma on target
1990 - Future red Istvan Kozma netted in Hungary's 4-1 defeat of Turkey in a friendly.
1989 - He joined Dunfermline Athletic in a £550,000 move from Girondins de Bordeaux.
Kirkland's farewell
2003 - Chris Kirkland won his eighth and final England Under-21's cap as they were held to a 1-1 draw in a European Championships qualifier in FYR Macedonia. Future red Jermaine Pennant won his only cap while on loan at Leeds United in the same game, with fellow future red Glen Johnson also featuring.
Young debutants
2006 - Paul Anderson, Mark Hammill and Craig Lindfield all made their debuts for England Under-19's as they were held to a goalless draw by the Netherlands in a friendly in Walsall. Meanwhile, Florent Sinama-Pongolle struck as France Under-21's beat Slovenia 2-0 in a European Championships qualifier in Amiens. Besian Idrizaj faced future red Alberto Aquilani, while Craig Bellamy and ex-red Paul Jones all also featured for their countries that day.
Digger's debut
1981 - Future red John Barnes made his debut for Watford as a substitute in their 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic at Vicarage Road.
International starts
2008 - El-Hadji Diouf played his first international since moving to Sunderland as Senegal lost 3-2 to Algeria in a World Cup qualifier in Blida. On the same day, Damien Plessis appeared for France Under-21's as they thumped Malta 5-0 in Boulogne-sur-Mer.
2004 - Rigobert Song won his first cap as a Galatasaray player, and ninetieth overall, as Cameroon lost a World Cup qualifier 3-2 in Egypt. On the same day, Salif Diao faced future red Momo Sissoko as Mali and Senegal drew 2-2 in another qualifier in Bamako.
