Happy birthday Carra
1978 - Jamie Carragher was born in Bootle. The tough defender has been a consistent presence across the back four for several seasons now and has so far made 684 reds appearances, currently standing at second in the club's all-time appearance holders. He has so far helped us to claim the European Cup, UEFA Cup, FA Cup, two UEFA Super Cups, two League Cups and two FA Charity/Community Shields.
In steps Royston
1994 - Roy Evans took over as Manager, after almost thirty years at Anfield. He remained in charge for nearly five years, leading us to a Coca-Cola Cup win in 1995, and the FA Cup Final a year later, although he struggled to deliver a consistent Championship challenge.
Bimpson arrives
1953 - Louis Bimpson signed from Burscough on a free transfer. He scored 39 goals in his 102 first-team appearances, before joining Blackburn Rovers in November 1959.
Stéph heads north
2005 - Stéphane Henchoz joined Celtic on a free transfer, after failing to score in 205 reds appearances. He was a defensive rock for us, helping us to claim the UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups. He only made eight senior appearances in his time at Parkhead, before returning south of the border to join Wigan Athletic in July of that year.
Robbie's farewell
2009 - We suffered our third straight 1-1 draw, and fourth consecutive stalemate in all competitions as we visited Wigan Athletic. Robbie Keane played his 28th and final reds game as a late substitute for Steven Gerrard. Yossi Benayoun gave us the lead, with Fernando Torres hitting the post before Lucas gave away a very late penalty that Mido converted, so scoring against the reds for his second club in the League that season after netting for Middlesbrough at Anfield.

2011 - Fernando Torres submitted a written transfer request. He had struck an impressive 81 times in 142 reds games since his club record £20.2m signing from Club Atlético de Madrid in July 2007. He was sold to Chelsea for a British record £50m fee three days later. On the same day, Icelandic reserves midfielder Victor Pálsson left Anfield to join Hibernian, for whom he has so far netted once in 34 outings. Meanwhile, ex-reds forward Krisztián Németh joined Olympiacos Volos on loan from fellow Greek side Olympiacos. He struck once in thirteen League matches for them.
Tosh the boss, briefly
1984 - John Toshack was appointed part-time Manager of Wales. He only stayed in charge for 47 days, and just the one game, later returning for a second spell as boss.
2003 - He resigned as Manager of Italian Serie B side Catania after just two months in the hot seat there, following criticism from the club's President.
Red centurions
1961 - Alan A'Court played his 300th reds game. However, it was an unhappy milestone for the forward as we lost an FA Cup Fourth Round tie 2-0 to Sunderland at Anfield.
1922 - Left-half Tom Bromilow made his hundredth appearance as we lost an FA Cup Second Round match 1-0 at home to West Bromwich Albion. The Baggies went out at the next hurdle themselves.
1939 - Matt Busby played his hundredth League game for the reds in our 1-1 draw at Leeds United, with Jack Balmer bagging our goal late on.
A poor goalscoring day
Amazingly, we did not score in each of six consecutive matches played on this day.
1956 - Our most recent goals on this day before our 2009 trip to Wigan came in an FA Cup Fourth Round replay against Scunthorpe United that ended in a 3-3 draw at Anfield. Two goals came from the legendary Billy Liddell, with Jimmy Payne netting the other. We won the replay 2-1 but went out to Manchester City in the next round.
In fact, we have only won four of our sixteen matches on this day.
1950 - Our most recent win was a 3-1 home victory over Exeter City in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. Kevin Baron, Willie Fagan and Jimmy Payne grabbed our goals that day. We reached our second Final that year, losing out at Wembley to Arsenal.
Off on loan
2010 - Reserves forward Nathan Eccleston joined League One side Huddersfield Town on loan. He netted his only goal for the Terriers on his debut, the only score in their win at Yeovil Town. He made four starts and eight substitute appearances as they reached the play-offs, as well as being sent off once in his time at the Galpharm Stadium.
International debutants
1998 - Future red Bernard Diomède won his first full international cap as France beat Spain 1-0 in a friendly at the Stade de France.
2003 - Ex-red Frode Kippe played his first senior game for Norway in their 2-1 friendly win in Oman, although the opposition was an Under-23's team.
2005 - He also featured for them as they were held to a goalless draw in Jordan.
Bowyer's last
1911 - Forward Sam Bowyer struck the final one of his sixteen reds goals, a last-minute equaliser as we were held 1-1 at Anfield by Manchester City in a top-flight encounter.
On Song three times
1998 - Future red Rigobert Song struck his first international goal, his only one as a Metz player, the only score in Cameroon's home friendly with Angola in Garoua.
He also represented his country twice more on this day in history.
2000 - He played in a 3-0 African Cup of Nations win over Ivory Coast in Ghana
2001 - He appeared in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win in Togo.
Also on target
2004 - Ex-red Titi Camara scored as Guinea were held to a 1-1 draw by Rwanda in the African Cup of Nations, staged in Tunisia.
2007 - Future red Lucas Leiva struck for Brazil as they beat Colombia 2-0 in the final phase of the Sudamericano Sub-20 "Juventud de América" in Paraguay to clinch the championship. Fellow future red Emiliano Insúa also featured in the tournament that day, as Argentina beat Uruguay 1-0.
2009 - Ronald Huth featured in the same competition as Paraguay beat Chile 2-1 in their final group game as they qualified for the final phase.
