Stevie G is the new LFC League #19
Sunday, 21st February 2010
Reds skipper Steven Gerrard moved up one place to rank as the club's all-time number nineteen in terms of League games played after appearing at Eastlands on Sunday. This was his 355th League game for Liverpool, although this is 69 behind Jamie Carragher, our most experienced current player, who ranks number eleven in the League.

The 29-year old Whiston-born lad signed on as a pro in 1997, and is currently contracted with the club until 2013. He has so far bagged an impressive 76 goals in his 355 League appearances. Although he is still just over forty strikes away from breaking into our Top 10 League scorers list, he currently ranks an impressive number eleven in all competitions.

Gerrard's 355th game drew him with the King himself. Fêted by many as the finest ever reds player, he bagged 172 goals in 515 games, and 118 in his 355 League outings, and helped us to countless honours, both as a player, and later as Manager. His greatest moments as a player include scoring the goals that clinched the European Cup at Wembley in 1978, and the first half of a League and FA Cup double at Stamford Bridge eight years later, while his efforts in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster ensure he retains an even more special place in our hearts.

Next in Gerrard's sights on this list are Gordon Hodgson and Ron Yeats, whom he is likely to match at home to Portsmouth next month. It will then take a further 72 games before Stevie can break into the club's all-time Top 10 League appearance holders, and he would then still be more than 200 games behind Ian Callaghan, who is likely to forever remain the Liverpool player who tops the appearance charts.
