Liverpool v Hull City (26/09/2009) - Meet the Referee
Thursday, 24th September 2009
Peter Walton of Long Buckby makes a quick return to Anfield this season to referee our next Premiership game against Hull City on Saturday. Walton was in charge of our first home game against Stoke City last month.

Peter is currently the oldest referee in the Premiership, having started his refereeing career in the local Northampton leagues over 23 years ago, and in only 7 years he was running the line as a Football League Assistant. A season later he was promoted to be a Premiership Assistant Referee and then a FIFA assistant two years later in 1996. In the same year, he was on the line in the FA Cup Final as Manchester United beat us 1-0, and followed that up by being an assistant at the European Championships.

He was promoted to a Football League referee in 1998 and spent five seasons there before getting the call to the Premiership. His first Premiership game was one of its better games, as Wolverhampton Wanderers turned over a 3-0 half time deficit at Molineux to win 4-3 against Leicester City.

This will be his fourteenth time in the middle of a Liverpool match in all competitions, only Portsmouth back in April 2007 have managed a victory against us. Peter refereed Hull City three times last season and they remained unbeaten with one win and two draws, in fact he was in charge of Hull's first ever Premiership game as they beat Fulham 2-1 at the KC Stadium.

His assistants are Stuart Burt and Peter Kirkup with Andre Marriner as the fourth official.
