In advance of Saturday's visit from Hull City, YNWA looks at the seven previous occasions on which the Tigers have played at Anfield, six of which have ended in us being victorious, with last season's fixture resulting in a draw.
Jamie Carragher struck his seventh own goal for the reds, a club record, as we were held to a 2-2 draw last December. Hull took a surprise lead when defender Paul McShane headed in before we went two behind. Steven Gerrard bagged a brace before the break, but we were unable to find a winner.
Ian Callaghan bagged a hat-trick as we won a League Cup Fourth Round replay 3-1 at Anfield in December 1973.
Also in the League Cup
Young midfielder Leyton Maxwell scored on his only senior reds appearance as we beat the Tigers 4-2 in the second leg of our Worthington Cup Second Round tie, with Karlheinz Riedle netting a brace, and Danny Murphy also on the scoresheet. Frode Kippe and Jon Newby also made their senior bows.
Off the mark
Left-half Geoff Twentyman grabbed his first reds goal in our 2-1 Second Division win in November 1954, with Eric Anderson also on target in our first ever meeting with the Tigers. Ronnie Moran also struck for the first time in August 1959, from a free-kick, with Jimmy Harrower scoring from distance, Jimmy Melia heading in and Alan A'Court and Billy Liddell also getting on the scoresheet as we came from 2-0 down to win 5-3. All our goals came at the Kop end in the second half after new Scottish keeper Bert Slater had endured a torrid early period to the game.
Our other Anfield meetings
Billy Liddell bagged a brace as we won 3-0 in a Second Division encounter in August 1955, with Alan Arnell also on target. We won a League Cup Second Round tie by the same score in September 1971, with Chris Lawler and Steve Heighway netting before Brian Hall converted a penalty.
