Aldo's record
1987 - John Aldridge scored in his tenth consecutive League game, including one from the previous season, netting from the spot as we beat Queens Park Rangers 4-0 at Anfield. Craig Johnston had a goal chalked off but also scored, while John Barnes bagged a brace. This goalscoring run remains a joint top-flight record, for any club, and took him to twelve goals already that season. Ex-red Ian Rush was watching in the crowd.

Later that day, Kenny Dalglish, Peter Robinson and Chairman John Smith met with Ray Houghton and his wife at a Southport restaurant to agree to his transfer from Oxford United, which was finalised two days later.

Triple centurions
2009 - Ryan Babel, Yossi Benayoun and Javier Mascherano all reached a century of reds appearances as we lost 1-0 at Sunderland to the freak ‘beach ball' goal, as Pepe Reina was wrong-footed by a fifth-minute Darren Bent strike that should have been ruled out. Ex-red Bolo Zenden featured for the home side.
1896 - We lost a top-flight fixture at Sunderland's Newcastle Road ground by the odd goal in seven, having gone in 3-0 down at the break. Full-back Archie Goldie struck his first reds goal before we then fell 4-1 behind, with Donald Gow scoring an own goal for the reds and George Allan also on target late on to make the score slightly more respectable.

1990's Euro trips
1995 - Mark Wright excelled as we held Brøndby IF to a goalless draw in Denmark, although we lost the Anfield return 1-0 to crash out of the UEFA Cup at the Second Round stage.
1996 - Robbie Fowler and John Barnes netted as we beat Sion 2-1 after falling behind to a Christophe Bonvin strike in Switzerland at the same stage of the European Cup Winners' Cup. We went as far as the Semi-final that year, after winning the Anfield return 6-3.

Onto the Heighway
1970 - Steve Heighway netted his first reds strike to complete a 2-0 top-flight victory over Burnley at Anfield after Ron Yeats had opened the scoring just before half time.

The Case for
1994 - A testimonial match for Jimmy Case was played, with the reds beating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at the Goldstone Ground. Young forward Lee Jones scored his first reds goal, with Robbie Fowler netting the other.
1981 - We also faced the Seagulls on the south coast when Kenny Dalglish, Ray Kennedy and Terry McDermott struck in a 3-3 top-flight draw.

Derby disappointment
2010 - We tamely lost 2-0 at Goodison Park, with boss Roy Hodgson laughably claiming after the match that it had been our best performance of the season to date.
1998 - Our League trip across Stanley Park ended goalless, so taking the Blues' unbeaten derby run to nine matches. Ivory Coast-born striker Ibrahima Bakayoko was making his debut for the home side.

A winning debut
1925 - Right-half David McMullan made his reds bow in our 2-1 defeat of Manchester City at Anfield. Harry Chambers and Dick Forshaw struck our goals, with left-half Tom Bromilow playing his 200th League game.

Management no more
2007 - Sammy Lee and Frank McParland both left Bolton Wanderers by mutual consent. Sammy had been in charge for just fourteen matches, although he had only led them to three victories.
1994 - 1950's wing-half Keith Burkinshaw was sacked as Manager of West Bromwich Albion. He had been in charge for sixteen months, as the Baggies struggled to stay in the First Division.

Loaned out
2000 - Erik Meijer joined Preston North End on loan. He made nine appearances while at Deepdale, but failed to get on the scoresheet.
2002 - Right-back Glen Johnson joined Millwall on loan from West Ham United. He played eight times for the Lions before returning to establish himself in the first eleven at Upton Park.

Disappointment in the Potteries
1903 - We were well beaten at Stoke, going down 5-2 in a top-flight match, with Jack Cox and George Fleming netting for the reds.
1959 - We returned to the Victoria Ground for a Second Division encounter, with Jimmy Harrower on the scoresheet as we held Stoke City to a draw. Forward Reginald Blore made his only senior reds appearance in this game.

Seeing off the Mancs
1942 - We beat Manchester United 2-1 at Anfield in a Wartime League game, with Willie Fagan and Cyril Done grabbing our goals.

Bye bye Berry for now
1908 - Arthur Berry played the third and final game of his first spell as a reds player as we were held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield by Woolwich Arsenal. Ronald Orr and Joe Hewitt were both on the scoresheet.

Kenny for his country
King Kenny has played for Scotland three times on this day over the years.
1973 - He won his twelfth cap while still with Celtic as they won 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Czechoslovakia.
1979 - Dalglish captained the side as they were held 1-1 at Hampden Park by Austria in a European Championships qualifier. Graeme Souness and future red John Wark played behind him in that game.
1984 - He won his 95th cap as Scotland beat Iceland 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier. Steve Nicol won his second cap in that game, as ex-red Graeme Souness skippered the side.

International reds on target
1990 - Gary McAllister, then still with Leeds United, scored his first Scotland goal in his fifth international game, as they beat Switzerland 2-1 in a European Championships qualifier at Hampden Park. Steve Nicol also featured in this game. On the same day, ex-red John Aldridge netted a treble, including a penalty, as the Republic of Ireland beat Turkey 5-0 at Lansdowne Road. Ray Houghton and Steve Staunton both also played.

Meanwhile, Ian Rush bagged his first goal for Wales in his second spell as a reds player in their 3-1 win over Belgium in Cardiff in another qualifier. Future red Dean Saunders was also on the scoresheet. Peter Beardsley netted in England's 2-0 defeat of Poland at Wembley, with John Barnes and future red Mark Wright also featuring. Future red Istvan Kozma also featured in qualifying action that day.

2007 - Steve Finnan struck his second and final goal for the Republic of Ireland, and only one as a reds player, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cyprus in a Euro 2008 qualifier at Croke Park in Dublin, with future red Robbie Keane also featuring.
1979 - Ex-red Kevin Keegan was on the scoresheet in England's 5-1 European Championships qualifying win in Northern Ireland, with Terry McDermott, Phil Neal and Phil Thompson all also playing.

First and last caps
1979 - Ex-red John Toshack won his fortieth and final cap for Wales as they were thumped 5-1 by West Germany in a European Championships qualifier in Cologne. Ex-red Joey Jones also played. Steve Heighway was also picked for a qualifier that day, as the Republic of Ireland beat Bulgaria 3-0 at Lansdowne Road.
1984 - Michael Robinson won his last cap as a reds player as the Republic of Ireland lost 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Norway. Mark Lawrenson and Ronnie Whelan both also featured. Jan Mølby and future reds John Barnes and Mark Wright also turned out in World Cup fixtures on the same day.

2007 - Future red Andrea Dossena made his senior international bow, his only appearance as an Udinese player, coming off the bench as Italy beat South Africa 2-0 in a friendly in Siena. On the same day, Ryan Babel, Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypiä, Pepe Reina, John Arne Riise, ex-reds Craig Bellamy, Mark González, Roy Hodgson, Michael Owen, John Toshack and future reds Joe Cole, Stewart Downing, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Albert Riera and Luis Suárez all also represented their countries.

Half a century high
2007 - Andriy Voronin won his fiftieth cap for the Ukraine as they thumped the Faroe Islands 5-0 in a Euro 2008 qualifier in Kiev. Meanwhile, future red Christian Poulsen also reached half a century as Denmark beat Latvia 3-1 in a European Championships qualifier in Copenhagen.

Into the hall of fame
2007 - It was announced that Peter Beardsley and Graeme Souness were to be inducted into the Football Museum's Hall of Fame. Beardsley won two League titles, the FA Cup, and two FA Charity Shields while at Anfield, as well as 59 England caps and a ‘new' Second Division title with Fulham. Souness claimed five League titles, three European Cups, four League Cups and three FA Charity Shields while with the reds, also winning 54 Scottish caps, a Second Division championship, Coppa Italia and Scottish League title as a player.

An international debut
1956 - Alan A'Court won the first of his seven caps for England Under-23's as they were held to a goalless draw by France at Ashton Gate.

Joe departs
2006 - Centre-half Joe Maloney died. He signed on at Anfield as a professional in January 1951, but only made twelve senior appearances before moving to Shrewsbury Town in July 1954, for whom he played 237 League games.

Smith born
1985 - Ex-reds reserve Jamie Smith was born in Liverpool. He can play at either centre-back or on the left hand side of defence, and is currently playing for Southport in the Conference National, having only played one senior reds game, in our Carling Cup tie at Reading in October 2006.

Ernie in action twice
Future reds defender Ernie Blenkinsop played for England in the British International Championships twice on this day in consecutive years.
1931 - He helped them to a 6-2 win in Northern Ireland
1932 - He captained his country to a 1-0 victory over the same opposition in Blackpool, with reds keeper Elisha Scott in the away side's goal that day.
