Sir Roger's treble
1961 - Roger Hunt scored a hat-trick in our 6-1 defeat of Walsall at Anfield, already his second treble of the season as we went on to claim the Second Division title. Kevin Lewis, Jimmy Melia and Ian St. John netted the others.

Hurry up Harry
1893 - Forward Harry Bradshaw signed from Northwich Victoria. He struck 51 times in 138 reds games, helping us to the Second Division title on two occasions, and winning an England cap in his five years at Anfield, so becoming the first ever international red. He moved on to Southern League side Tottenham Hotspur in May 1898.

Court drama again
2010 - The club won a second case in the High Court against current owners George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks. The sale of the club to New England Sports Ventures was finally completed the next day, after a testing week for employees and fans alike.

Nine in a row
1899 - We lost 2-1 at Bury, a club record ninth consecutive top-flight defeat. Inside-right John Walker scored our consolation strike.

Derby joy
1922 - We won at Goodison, with Dick Johnson grabbing the only goal of the game. This completed a League double, as we had thrashed the Blues 5-1 at Anfield a week earlier.

Disappointment in the steel city
We have visited Sheffield three times on this day in history to play First Division matches, returning without a win on each occasion.
1905 - We lost 3-2 to The Wednesday at their old Owlerton ground with Robbie Robinson and Joe Hewitt netting for the reds.
1911 - We did slightly better there, holding them to a 2-2 draw, with Sam Gilligan and Jack Parkinson on target.
1912 - Inside-forward Arthur Metcalf nabbed his first reds strike as we lost 4-1 at Sheffield United, with Arthur Berry playing his fourth and final reds game, and only one of his second spell with the club.

Thumping the Rams
1978 - We trounced an injury-hit Derby County 5-0 at Anfield in a First Division fixture with Ray Kennedy and Kenny Dalglish each netting twice, after David Johnson had grabbed the only goal of the first half.

Suspended
1895 - Centre-forward George Allan was suspended for eight matches by the Scottish FA, four months after arriving from Leith Athletic in a £100 deal. This was due to him having also signed for St. Bernard's at the same time as moving to Anfield! He went on to score 56 goals in 96 reds games across two spells, and also has the distinction of being the first reds player to represent Scotland.

Held at Anfield
2006 - Craig Bellamy was on target with a header against his former employers as we were held to a 1-1 draw by Blackburn Rovers at home in the League, after Benni McCarthy had given the visitors a surprise early lead.

International debutants
1987 - Gary Gillespie made his Scotland debut in their 2-0 European Championships qualifying defeat of Belgium at Hampden Park, with future reds coach Steve Clarke also playing.
1970 - Larry Lloyd won his first cap for England Under-23's as they beat West Germany 3-1 in a friendly at Filbert Street. On the same day, Steve Heighway won his second senior cap as the Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw in a European Championships qualifier at Dalymount Park.

Reds on the mark
1998 - Patrik Berger, Michael Owen and future reds Robbie Keane, Jari Litmanen and Abel Xavier all scored in Euro 2000 qualifiers. England won 3-0 in Luxembourg, with Berger bagging a brace as the Czech Republic beat Estonia 4-1 in Teplice, playing alongside future red Vladimír Šmicer. Keane struck twice as the Republic of Ireland thumped Malta 5-0 at Lansdowne Road, his only goals while with Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Jason McAteer, Steve Staunton and future red Mark Kennedy all also featuring. Portugal won 3-0 in Slovakia, with Xavier bagging his first senior international goal, and only one as a PSV Eindhoven player. Meanwhile Finland won 3-1 in Turkey, with future red Sami Hyypiä also appearing. Also in qualifying action that day were Stig Inge Bjørnebye, Vegard Heggem, and future reds Nicolas Anelka, Markus Babbel and Stéphane Henchoz.

1987 - John Barnes bagged a brace, with Peter Beardsley also on target as England thumped Turkey 8-0 at Wembley in a European Championships qualifier. On the same day, Craig Johnston and Steve McMahon played for England B as they beat Malta 2-0 in a friendly in Ta' Qali.
2008 - Ex-red Jimmy Ryan struck his only goal for the Republic of Ireland Under-21's in their 3-0 friendly victory in Lithuania.

First and last caps
2008 - Ex-red Florent Sinama-Pongolle won his first and so far only senior cap as France beat Tunisia 3-1 in a friendly at the Stade de France, with ex-red Alou Diarra also featuring.
1981 - Mark Lawrenson won his seventeenth cap, and first as a reds player, as the Republic of Ireland beat France 3-2 in a World Cup qualifier at Lansdowne Road. Ronnie Whelan also played, while future red Michael Robinson was on the scoresheet. Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen, Ian Rush, Graeme Souness and ex-red Joey Jones all also featured in World Cup action that day.
1987 - Ian Rush won his first cap as a Juventus player, his 33rd in all, as Wales lost 1-0 in Denmark in a European Championships qualifier. On the same day, Ray Houghton won his last cap while with Oxford United, his twelfth, as the Irish beat Bulgaria in another qualifier in Dublin. He was playing alongside John Aldridge, Mark Lawrenson and Ronnie Whelan.

1992 - Dean Saunders and Ray Houghton both won their first caps as Aston Villa players in World Cup qualifiers. Wales won 1-0 in Cyprus, with Ian Rush also in the side. Ireland held Denmark to a goalless draw in Copenhagen, with Torben Piechnik, who was booked, and ex-red John Aldridge also playing. Future reds Stig Inge Bjørnebye, Gérard Houllier, Paul Ince, Gary McAllister and Karlheinz Riedle were all also taking part in World Cup qualifiers that day, with Roy Hodgson taking charge of Switzerland.
1998 - Dean Saunders won his 66th cap for Wales, and last one as a Sheffield United player, as Wales beat Belarus 3-2 in a Euro 2000 qualifier in Cardiff. Future red Paul Jones also played.

World Cup action
2009 - LFC TV became the first club channel to broadcast a World Cup qualifier live, as Spain won 5-2 at Bosnia-Herzegovina. Albert Riera won his final cap as a reds player, with ex-red Xabi Alonso also in action. Meanwhile, Peter Crouch won his first cap as a Tottenham Hotspur player as England beat Belarus 3-0 at Wembley, bagging a brace, with Glen Johnson also featuring. Jerzy Dudek won his first cap while with Real Madrid as Poland lost 1-0 to Slovakia in Chorzów. Daniel Agger, Yossi Benayoun, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Lucas Leiva, Javier Mascherano, ex-reds Milan Baroš, Alou Diarra, Sami Hyypiä, Robbie Keane, Jari Litmanen and Nikolay Mihaylov, future reds Milan Jovanović, Christian Poulsen and Luis Suárez and Wales boss John Toshack were all also involved in qualifiers, with ex-red Harry Kewell also in international action.
