2004 - We won a game of two halves at Craven Cottage. The reds were dismal in a first half that saw a Luis Boa Morte brace put Fulham 2-0 up. We drew level after the break thanks to a Zat Knight own goal and a close-range Milan Baroš strike, before Josemi was sent off following a second caution. Xabi Alonso, who had replaced the hapless Salif Diao at half time, then bagged his first reds goal, with the 4-2 win completed by Igor Bišcan's glorious strike, his first League goal. All together now, "2-0 down, 4-2 up, Igor Bišcan wrapped it up."
First win in the Ukraine
2001 - With Gérard Houllier recovering from heart surgery, the reds became the first English side to win in Kiev, beating Dynamo Kyiv 2-1 on their own turf thanks to goals from Danny Murphy and Steven Gerrard, with the home side having a goal disallowed in the final minute.
The blues see red
1999 - We beat Chelsea 1-0 at Anfield with David Thompson on target shortly after half-time. The Blues had both Marcel Desailly and Dennis Wise sent off.
Souey's century
1993 - Graeme Souness took charge of his hundredth League game as Manager as we beat Oldham Athletic 2-1, with both our goals coming in the final three minutes, from Robbie Fowler and a Graham Barlow own goal.
Savage no more
1937 - Right-half Ted Savage played his 105th and final reds game as we lost 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in a First Division fixture at Molineux.
Beating the Blues
1976 - Steve Heighway and John Toshack struck as we won the Anfield derby, with Phil Neal on target from the spot, having missed one in the most recent derby six months earlier, as we led 3-0 at the break. Martin Dobson's consolation after the break was the Blues' first derby goal in five years. Blues boss Billy Bingham missed the game as he was recovering from an operation in hospital.
1943 - We thumped Everton 5-2 in a Wartime League game at Anfield, with Jack Balmer netting a brace, and Jim Harley, Cyril Done and Berry Nieuwenhuys also on the scoresheet.
1897 - We lost 3-0 at Goodison.
RIP George
1899 - 24-year old centre-forward George Allan died from tuberculosis in Earlsbury in Fife, while still on our books. He had struck 56 times in 96 reds games, during two spells at Anfield and was the first red to be capped by Scotland.
Reds looking towards Portugal
2002 - Steven Gerrard scored in England's 2-2 Euro 2004 qualifying draw with FYR Macedonia in Southampton, with Michael Owen also in the team. John Arne Riise scored a trademark free-kick as Norway beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 in Oslo, with ex-red Øyvind Leonhardsen also in the side. Milan Baroš was also on target as the Czech Republic beat Belarus 2-0 in Teplice, with future red Craig Bellamy netting as Wales beat Italy 2-1 in Cardiff.
Dietmar Hamann featured in Germany's 2-1 win over the Faroe Islands in Hannover, while Sami Hyypiä was on the losing side with ex-clubmate Jari Litmanen, as Finland lost 2-0 in Yugoslavia. Future reds Paul Jones, Robbie Keane, Fernando Morientes, Andriy Voronin and Bolo Zenden all also played in qualifiers, with future red Alberto Aquilani turning out for Italy Under-19's.
Heading to Wearside
1985 - Bob Bolder joined Sunderland for £100,000, following a successful loan spell. He had never made our first team after signing from Sheffield Wednesday for £125,000 in 1983, but sat on the bench at the 1984 European Cup Final in Rome, one of seventeen times he did so in Europe's premier club competition, also doing so four more times in other competitions.
2009 - Bolo Zenden also signed for the Black Cats, having been released by Olympique de Marseille. He scored four goals in fifty outings, although only thirteen of those were starts. On the same day, reserves keeper David Martin joined Tranmere Rovers on loan. He turned out three times for them.
International reds
1991 - Steve Staunton won his last cap in his first spell as a reds player as the Republic of Ireland drew 3-3 in a European Championships qualifier in Poland. Ex-red Kevin Sheedy also played. Meanwhile, future red Karlheinz Riedle netted in Germany's 4-1 qualifying defeat of Wales in Nuremberg. Dean Saunders was sent off, with Ian Rush also playing. Ex-red Jim Magilton was also in action that day, as Northern Ireland beat Austria 2-1 at Windsor Park.
2007 - Javier Mascherano played in Argentina's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win in Venezuela, while future red Martin Škrtel featured in Slovakia's 3-0 friendly defeat in Croatia.
Young Ray's final cap
1973 - Future red Ray Kennedy won his sixth and final England Under-23's cap as they were held to a goalless draw by Poland in Plymouth. Ipswich Town's David Johnson also played.
