Happy birthday Joe
1981 - Joe Cole was born in London. He has so far notched just three times in 32 reds outings since joining on a free transfer from Chelsea in July 2010, and is spending this season on loan at Lille OSC Métropole.
Off the mark
2008 - Robbie Keane netted his first two League goals past ex-red Scott Carson as we beat West Bromwich Albion 3-0 at Anfield to hand Rafael Benítez his 150th win as reds boss in all competitions. The scoring was completed in injury time by Álvaro Arbeloa, who struck his second and final goal for the club.
1947 - Grimsby Town lost 3-1 at Anfield in a top-flight encounter with Kevin Baron notching his first reds goal, and Albert Stubbins and Bob Priday also on the scoresheet.
Hitting Spurs for four
1997 - Second-half goals from Steve McManaman, Øyvind Leonhardsen, Jamie Redknapp and substitute Michael Owen gave us a 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, with the latter netting his first in L4. Robbie Fowler was playing his 200th reds game, while beleaguered Spurs boss Gerry Francis was greeted with chants of "we want our Tottenham back".
1952 - In fact, we have only lost one of our sixteen first-class games on this day over the years, 3-2 at Charlton Athletic. Our goals came from Bryan Williams and outside-left Ken Brierley, who was scoring for the eighth and last time.
1980 - Our goalless draw at home to Nottingham Forest was our fifth consecutive League stalemate that season.
Beating the Mancs
1975 - We saw off Manchester United 3-1 thanks to goals from Steve Heighway and strike partners John Toshack and Kevin Keegan. The Anny Road end was separated by a metal divide for this game to give away fans their own section, following trouble at a previous match with United. One of the club's senior directors said that their fans had achieved something Hitler's bombers had failed to do - change Anfield.

We have also seen off Leyton Orient and Preston North End in L4 on this day over the years.
1924 - We beat the Lilywhites 3-1 thanks to a brace from Dick Forshaw and an Archie Rawlings strike, with keeper John Jones making the first of just four senior appearances and Forshaw scoring in the first of eight consecutive matches.
1958 - Orient were beaten 3-0 in a Second Division meeting with Geoff Twentyman, Louis Bimpson and Jimmy Melia on target.
Zico the boss
1996 - Phil Neal was appointed Manager of First Division Manchester City. He was in charge for less than two months, leading them to just two wins in his ten games in charge, before being replaced by ex-Nottingham Forest boss Frank Clark.
Moving towards another trophy
1983 - We were held to a 1-1 League Cup draw at Fulham. Ian Rush netted our goal, and it took us until a second replay to finally reach the Fourth Round.
Joy in the north east at last
1902 - We won at Newcastle United for the first time after six previously unsuccessful attempts. Sam Raybould and Arthur Goddard netted in a 2-1 victory.
Top of the table
1986 - We climbed to the summit of the First Division for the first time that season when goals from Ian Rush, Steve Nicol and Craig Johnston secured a 3-1 victory at Queens Park Rangers.
Bells foiled
2006 - Struggling striker Craig Bellamy had a weak penalty saved as we won a League Cup Fourth Round tie at Birmingham City, with Daniel Agger grabbing the only goal of the game. Unfortunately, the night was marred by a shoulder injury suffered by Momo Sissoko.
Another title
2009 - Liverpool and Adrian Valles won the 2009 Superleague Formula motor racing championship at Jarama in Spain.
In comes Lauri
2007 - Sixteen-year old Finnish forward Lauri Dalla Valle signed from Joensuun Iloiset Peli-Pojat for a reported £600,000, going on to sign a professional contract with the reds in September 2008. He moved to Fulham in August 2010 after just one brief substitute appearance as part of the deal that brought left-back Paul Konchesky to Anfield.
Future reds on the move
1983 - Future reds keeper Mike Hooper signed for his hometown club Bristol City on a free transfer from non-League Mangotsfield. He only made three first-team appearances in three seasons at Ashton Gate, moving on to Wrexham in July 1985.
1994 - Øyvind Leonhardsen joined Wimbledon from Rosenborg BK for £650,000. He had struck twenty times in 63 League games for the perpetual Norwegian champions, and spent three successful seasons with Wimbledon before joining the reds.
The Saint strikes
1961 - Ian St. John bagged a brace on his tenth full international appearance as Scotland beat Wales 2-0 at Hampden Park in the British International Championships.
Other birthdays
1917 - Left-back Bernie Ramsden was born in Sheffield. He arrived on a free transfer from Sheffield Victoria in March 1935, and helped us to claim the first post-war League title in 1947, making a total of 63 first-team appearances without notching. He moved on to Sunderland in March 1948.
1963 - Former reds loanee keeper Mark Prudhoe was born in Washington in Tyne & Wear. He joined Southend United on a free transfer from Bradford City on his 36th birthday. He remained at Roots Hall for a year, making just six appearances before being released.
Abel return
2006 - Abel Xavier re-signed for Middlesbrough. He was sacked by them ten months earlier after being found guilty of breaching UEFA's anti-doping regulations. He played twenty times in this second spell, before joining LA Galaxy in May 2007.
