Hull City v Liverpool (25/04/2009) - Down Memory Lane
Thursday, 23rd April 2009
In advance of Saturday's visit to Hull City, YNWA looks at the eight previous occasions on which we have been hosted by the Tigers, which have so far resulted in six wins and two draws.

Most recently
Stéphane Henchoz and Djimi Traoré both made their debuts in our 5-1 League Cup Second Round win in September 1999. Erik Meijer netted a brace, his only senior goals while at Anfield, with Danny Murphy nabbing his first two reds goals. Steve Staunton grabbed the other.

League wins
Eric Anderson and John Evans bagged late goals as we won a Second Division meeting 2-1 on Christmas Eve 1955. In January 1960, Jimmy Melia nabbed the only goal of the game.

Heading towards Wembley
We won 3-2 at Boothferry Park in an FA Cup Fifth Round tie in February 1989 thanks to a John Barnes goal and a brace from John Aldridge, having trailed 2-1. Steve Nicol skippered the side in the absence of both Ronnie Whelan and Alan Hansen. We of course went on to claim the trophy for the fourth time that season.

Stalemates
Our first League visit ended in a 2-2 draw in March 1955, when Eric Anderson and John Evans both struck inside the first twenty minutes. Forward Alan Waddle made his reds debut as we were held to a goalless draw in our League Cup Fourth Round encounter in November 1973. We won the Anfield replay 3-2 a week later when Ian Callaghan grabbed a hat-trick.

Friendly visits
Forward Jack Parkinson scored a hat-trick as we won 6-2 at City's old ground The Boulevard in February 1905. John Carlin, Alex Raisbeck and Sam Raybould were also on target. We won 5-3 at Boothferry Park in August 1968 thanks to goals from Peter Thompson, Emlyn Hughes and Roger Hunt, and a Bobby Graham brace.
