Reds skipper Steven Gerrard entered the club's all-time Top 40 for number of League games played when he turned out against Stoke City at Anfield last Saturday. This was his 306th League game for Liverpool, although this is 59 behind Jamie Carragher, our most experienced current player. Sami Hyypiä is just one game behind our skipper in this list.
The 28-year old Huyton-born lad signed on as a pro in 1997, and is currently contracted with the club until 2011. He has so far bagged an impressive 56 goals in his 306 League appearances, although this should now be 57 after the bizarrely ruled-out goal against the Potters.
Gerrard's 306th game drew him level with Tommy Lawrence. ‘The Flying Pig' was born in Dailly, Ayrshire in 1940 and signed professional terms at Anfield in October 1957. The legendary keeper played 390 times for us in total, winning two League title medals and being a member of the 1965 FA Cup winning side, during which time he missed just four League fixtures across six seasons. He left the club to join Tranmere Rovers in November 1971.
It will take a further 25 games before Stevie can break into the club's all-time Top 30 League appearance holders, and he would then still be more than 300 games behind Ian Callaghan, who is likely to forever remain the Liverpool player who tops the appearance charts.
