Uriah Rennie takes charge of his last Premiership game of his career as we travel to London to play Tottenham Hotspur.
Rennie is set to retire from top flight football due to age after the game at White Hart Lane. By coincidence his first ever game at the home of Tottenham Hotspur was back in March 1998 resulted in a 3-3 draw against Liverpool with Steve McManaman getting a last minute equaliser. He went on to referee another three matches between the two teams over the seasons with everything equal with both having one win each along with two draws.
He has now over 300 games under his belt since his first Premiership match in 1997 where goals from Paul Warhurst and Attilio Lombardo gave Crystal Palace a 2-0 win at Leeds United.
A hamstring injury at the start of this season delayed his compulsory fitness test and as a result his season did not start until late November when he took charge of four Championship games. His first Premiership game this season was Manchester United's 4-0 win at Sunderland on Boxing Day. This game will be just his eighth Premiership match of the season and his first at White Hart Lane since Boxing Day 2006 when two Defoe goals gave Spurs a 2-1 win against Aston Villa.
Controversy has never been far away from Uriah, back in November 2005 the Preston North End stadium announcer Adam Cattarall greeted the players for the second half of their league game with Crystal Palace "Welcome to the second half of the Uriah Rennie show" ringing in their ears.
He was probably not only one of the most recognisable officials in today's game, but also one of the fittest. Football is not the only sport in his life as he is an accomplished kick-boxer and an Aikido expert, if the players knew this maybe they wouldn't be as quick to surround him during a game.
Rennie is also a legal expert having earned a Masters in Business Administration in Law, and works as a magistrate in Sheffield. He once said "My work as a magistrate was never really linked to the fact that I was a ref. I became a ref because I wanted to be involved in football, but I also want to do my bit for the community." He also works in Leisure Management for Sheffield City Council.
His assistants for this game are Gary Brittain and Steve Tincknell with Grant Hegley as the fourth official.
