Tom Henning Ovrebo will take charge of our Champions League first leg qualifier in Belgium against Standard de Liège.
This is now his third season as a Category A referee, the highest in FIFA. three seasons ago was a personal triumph for the 42-year old who has been a FIFA registered referee since 1994, not only did he get the promotion to the top group of European referees he was also the fourth official for Champions League Final in Paris.
He is one of Norway's longest serving international referees, only Terge Hauge has more experience than Ovrebo. He has won Norway's Referee of the Year several occasions in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. He has also refereed two cup finals in Norway in 1999 and 2006.
This will be his eighth successive season in the Champions League and last season refereed a total of 5 matches, his highest so far. In 2006 he refereed the UEFA Cup semi-final between Schalke04 and Seville in Germany, his highest game so far.
This will be his third time in charge of one our games in Europe, two seasons ago he refereed our 1-0 win in Bordeaux, then last season he refereed our 1-0 win in Milan against Inter. His appointment for this game is surprising considering only last week he was in charge of our friendly win in Norway against Vålerenga.
Tom was Norway's representative at the recent EURO 2008 tournament. He refereed two games Germany's 2-0 win against Poland and the 1-1 draw between Italy and Romania.
