Reading v Liverpool (08/12/2007) - Down Memory Lane
Thursday, 6th December 2007
In advance of only our third ever visit to Reading on Saturday evening, YNWA looks back at our only previous meetings in any competition, all of which have taken place in the last fourteen months.

Carling Cup wins
Fernando Torres bagged a scintillating hat-trick at the Madejski Stadium in a Third Round encounter in September that ended 4-2. Yossi Benayoun opened the scoring with his first reds goal, while keeper Charles Itandje and young centre-back Jack Hobbs both made their reds bows.

Robbie Fowler and John Arne Riise both struck in the closing minutes of the first half of our meeting at the same stage of the competition at Anfield in October 2006, before Argentinean centre-back Gabriel Paletta scored on his reds debut four minutes after the break. However, we threw away the three-goal lead in the closing quarter of an hour. Andre Bikey pulled a goal back before Peter Crouch restored our cushion. However, first Leroy Lita then Shane Long scored for the visitors to make the final score 4-3, with the reds surviving a couple of very late threats for an equaliser. Also making their reds bows that night were midfielder Danny Guthrie, Lee Peltier at right-back and centre-half James Smith.

Another victory
Ten days later, the Royals made their first League visit to Anfield, with Dirk Kuyt bagging both goals as we won 2-0. Jamie Carragher played his 300th League game.

First trip to the Madejski
Our first game at Reading ended in a 2-1 win in April. Álvaro Arbeloa raced most of the length of the pitch to notch his first reds goal as we reached 200 League points under Rafael Benítez. Dirk Kuyt headed a late winner after Brynjar Gunnarsson had drawn the home side level.
