YNWA Man of the Match - Liverpool v Southampton (28/12/2004)
Thursday, 30th December 2004
Steven Gerrard won the final man of the match poll for 2004 as we beat Southampton 1-0 at Anfield.

After defeating West Bromwich Albion 5-0 only 48 hours earlier, many people expected another goal fest against the team just one place above the Baggies, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Liverpool struggled to get their game together and needed a goal from Sinama-Pongolle on the stroke of half time to claim the points.

Captain Gerrard was once again the driving force behind the team and seemed the only player capable of raising the crowd with his no-nonsense tackling and bustling runs.

It seems only fitting that the best player of 2004 should win the final man of the match award for the year. Gerrard played 42 matches for Liverpool during 2004, he appeared in the top three in 29 of those games winning the polls a massive 18 times.
