Shankly didn't win the league for 6 years in the period of time which he cemented the legacy of excellence that this club is all about.
In a way I feel abit sorry for all those Rafa haters, screaming in unison to get rid of the manager to stop the rot!.
Look back in our history (and take a look at other clubs who hire and fire on a whim) and you should see a pattern.
As far as I can see, given my understanding of Shanklys ideals and view on football/life, rafa's methodology is spot on. He had a great season last year, the team is clearly in transistion, ie post Alonso depression!.
He still has the support of the players, however crap they are at the moment.
I really hope they pull through and take some success, (Europa Cup!) out of what has admittedly been a horrible season.

great post, but i don't think alonso's departure is the sole reason.
unfortunately i think the transition from a defensive perspective has been a long time coming, as we've never fully replaced the carragher / hyypia defensive partnership that helped pepe reina win the golden gloves 3 seasons running. you can't go from a pairing that have had the benefit of 100's of games together and then expect a new back 4 to gel so quickly. agger's been unfortunate with injuries, and skrtel has looked like a liability this season. they've never really had the opportunity to gel together as a partnership (would it work - i'm not sure) and you can't deny carragher's form has been suffering for possible 18 months now. it was noticeable towards the end of last season when the team was full of confidence that we still had the capability to concede soft goals, arsenal at home being the best example of that. the knock on effect of having a poor defence shows further up the pitch when we're unable to get the second goal and see games out because it adds pressure on the attack to take more risks and ensure we're not defending a one goal lead late in the game.
as well as his obvious talents, alonso was such a calming influence for others on the pitch because he has the ability to control and dictate the pace of a game. i've never seen one single player do it quite so well, and even so i secretly always wished xabi could have done it for us more often (ok, this was pre last season!). i think the fact that we haven't replaced him has accelerated this defensive decline that's turned us into a team in transition.

We aren't Newcastle and don't need to get rid of the bloke that led us to our highest points total last year.
If (Fowler forbid) Rafa did get the bullet, I wouldn't want to see someone like Jose come straight in, cos those of us who are pro Rafa would resent anyone else.
better some nob head like fat Sam or Klinsman who can get sacked after 3 months before being replaced by a proper boss.
But Nothing's as good for our club as keeping Rafa, Nothing.

Anyone turning their nose up Jose managing the club is clearly missing a few marbles.

Hes the only manager I believe is of sufficient ability to keep us at the same level.
